Think Tank Learning Alliance

Think Tank Learning Alliance was founded by two Washington State certificated teachers with a combined experience of over 20 years. Both professional educators, whom are also mothers, are committed to educating children to be life-long learners that are curious, reflective and creative. Our unique, challenging curriculum emphasizes critical thinking with real-world applications to help prepare kids for the 21st century.

The classes offered at Think Tank Learning Alliance will allow your child to be successful in many capacities. All classes allow kids to explore and learn in depth about the given topic in a motivating, challenging and nurturing learning environment. Each 50 minute class, over a period of 4 weeks or three months, provides kids with meaningful, authentic tasks that build upon their prior knowledge. Children will NEVER be given generic worksheets or packets based upon a diagnostic test, but instead will interact with all learning tasks in a variety of ways: auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and tactile learning opportunities will be integrated into each class. All curriculum and materials are skillfully designed and created by our teachers to meet the needs of every learner. A small group setting is pivotal so that the teacher can ensure every child’s success. Private tutoring is also offered for those children needing a more specialized approach.

Homeschool Association

Whatcom Homeschool Association is a network of over four hundred families supporting each other in the adventure of homeschooling in Whatcom County, the northwest corner of Washington State. The independent spirit of homeschool families coupled with a twenty-five-year-old support group combine with positive community relations to provide a richness of learning opportunities.

Homeschooling in Whatcom County has many faces. It looks like children in the woods exploring the wonder of the natural world, kids sitting around the kitchen table pouring through lessons, young people working alongside a parent on a project, and a family in their living room listening to a book being read aloud.

Officially, homeschooling is parents taking direct, active responsibility for the education of their children. To assure their children the widest variety of learning experiences, homeschooling parents may incorporate community classes, tutors, apprenticeships, volunteering, and public school classes, extra-curricular activities (e.g. fine arts and sports), and ancillary services (e.g. speech therapy).

Washington Homeschool Organization

1. What is the Compulsory School Attendance requirement in Washington?

Students must attend school. Basically, children between the ages of eight and eighteen years old must attend the public school in which the child resides for the full time the school is in session unless the child is either attending an approved private school, is enrolled in an extension program of an approved private school, or is receiving home-based instruction.

2. What are Public School Alternative Learning Programs (PSALP’s) or Parent-Partnered Programs (PPP’s)?

The purpose of alternative learning (Washington Administrative Code 392.121.182) is to provide support to school districts for the operation of programs that recognize and address the diverse needs of students for courses of study provided in non-traditional learning environments. Each student is considered a full time equivalent for enrollment and state funding. Public School Alternative Learning Programs (PSALP’s) or Parent-Partnered Programs (PPP’s) are for students who are not home-based instruction or private school students.

3. A parent must qualify to homeschool. How does a parent qualify?

Home-based instruction must be provided by a parent who is instructing his or her children only. In addition, one of the following four requirements must be satisfied:

The student is supervised by a certificated teacher. There must be a minimum of an average of one-hour contact per week with the student being supervised by the teacher.

The parent has either earned 45 college level quarter credit hours or the equivalent in semester hours.

The parent has completed a parent qualifying course in home-based instruction at a post-secondary institution or a vocational-technical institute.

The parent has been deemed qualified by the superintendent of the district in which the student lives.

4. What are the requirements surrounding the Declaration of Intent to provide Home-Based Instruction?

This form declares to the superintendent in your district, that your child will be homeschooling. It must be filed annually by September 15th or within two weeks of the beginning of any public school quarter, trimester or semester. The declaration includes the name and age of the child, specifies whether a certificated person will be supervising the instruction, and is written in a format prescribed by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Any information on the district form that is not prescribed, is optional. The form is available from your local school district, and must be filed with the superintendent in your district.

5. What are the testing requirements in the home-based instruction law?

We are required to test our children annually. There are two options:

A standardized achievement test approved by the state board of education and administered by a qualified individual, or

An assessment of the student’s academic progress which is written by a certificated person who is currently working in the field of education.

The test results remain in the home as part of the child’s permanent homeschool records.

6. Are there subject areas that need to be covered?

The law states that instruction will consist of planned and supervised instructional and related educational activities including a curriculum and instruction in the basic skills of occupational education, science, mathematics, language, social studies, history, health, reading, writing and spelling and the development of an appreciation of art and music.

7. Does the law mandate hours of instruction?

The hours of instruction are to be equal to the total hours per grade level established for approved private schools. However, when determining “how” (the nature of instruction) and for how long (the quantity of instruction) parents should know that: “The legislature recognizes that home-based instruction is less structured and more experiential than classroom education. Therefore, these provisions of the nature and quantity of instruction shall be liberally construed.”

8. Are there record keeping requirements?

Parents need to keep copies of the annual test scores or the written assessment and immunization records. Beyond that, parents decide which records to keep that relate to the instruction and educational activities they have provided. If a student enters a public or private school, if asked, the parent must provide copies of their annual test results.

9. Can home-based instruction students receive high school credit and a diploma?

Yes, credits can be granted, transcripts created and a diploma granted by homeschool parents. Other options are available to homeschool students through accredited courses of study and a variety of well established commercial curriculums. However, if the student plans to transfer to a public or private school, it is strongly recommended that parents contact school staff to determine their policy regarding transfer credits and high school completion. This planning is also recommended for technical schools, colleges and universities. Home-based instruction students do not receive a Washington State Diploma. The Washington Homeschool Organization hosts an annual homeschool graduation.

10. May homeschool students participate in public schools?

Homeschoolers may take “courses” at the public school on a part-time basis. A “course” is defined as any instructional curricular service or activity. They may also avail themselves of ancillary services. These are defined as co-curricular services or activities. Some examples are counseling, testing, hearing tests and speech therapy, etc. While participating at the public school for part-time courses or for ancillary services, homeschoolers remain under the home-based instruction statutes.

The Washington Home Education Network

Since the early to mid 1990s the Washington Home Education Network (WHEN)has been for those interested in homeschooling in Washington state, particularly legislative news and discussion.

WHEN welcomes Home-based Instruction as well as Parent Partnered or other public school families. There is a wealth of resources families can share and benefit from as well as legislation and policies related to both choices. WHEN supports the laws which distinguishes between these programs and Home-based Instruction(homeschooling). This list is for sharing resources and networking with like (or unlike) families. We watch and DISCUSS legislative actions and/or policies of our state government, school boards and local municipalities as they relate to families who educate their children under the above laws. Please take the time to know which law your family is operating under.

Discussion is encouraged on WHEN and you may read things you disagree with.
Civility and passion for a cause are not mutually exclusive.

In essence, users are expected to read each post with intent to
understand the point the poster is trying to make. When composing posts,
respond to the argument; do not attack the person who made the argument.
As a participant here I hope you make a commitment not only to learn more about legislative issues, but also to improve your own
ability to communicate effectively with the diverse group of homeschoolers
on this list, as well as with legislators, the media, and the public at
large.

Valley Home Educators

Our Purpose

To provide a practical, usable service to the homeschool community. To provide an easily accessible avenue for examination of curricula and related items of interest. To provide informative speakers on a broad spectrum of home schooling issues and related areas of home life and ultimately edify the body of Christ.

What We Believe

There is one God, Creator, sustainer of all things and eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the inspired, infallible and inerrant word of God. It is the final and ultimate authority for faith and life, and it is personally relevant and applicable to our lives today.

God the Son, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life in human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. He suffered a vicarious and atoning death, was resurrected, ascended to the right hand of God the Father, and will personally return in power and glory.

Salvation is offered as a gift, free to the sinner, through the substitutionary death of Christ on the cross. It is available to all trusting in Jesus Christ, believing on Him, and making Him our Lord and Savior.

Attic Learning Community

The Attic offers a unique educational experience for children ages 3 -18, one which supports a sense of self, a passion for learning, community, and childhood through our K-12 program and the Field & Forest Outdoor Preschool program. Many educative practices go into creating our progressive educative model. We offer a low child:teacher ratio in a multiage environment. Our teachers are passionate, committed to each and every child. We understand the importance of freedom within structure, and of developmentally-appropriate education. Core classes meet three days per week, Monday through Wednesday, to give children and their families time to pursue their interests. Special programs meet on Thursday and Friday. Above all, the Attic does not use grades, rewards, or punishments. This supports the development of intrinsic motivation, a key Attic value.

We invite you to peruse our website and learn more details about our unique program, to help you decide if you would like your child and family to become a part of our community, or if you’d like to come learn from us for your own professional development as a teacher or parent. We invite you to visit our learning community if you like what you read. The kids at the Attic amaze visitors – because they are themselves. They are valued for who they are. They are intrinsically motivated. They are allowed to learn at their level. They become empowered, self-confident teens who are active learners in life.

We welcome your interest in the Attic, and hope to see you at our Open House for prospective parents and educators, our Foundations classes, or other parent and teacher education opportunities.

Soundview School

Soundview School is a 501(c)(3) non-profit independent school celebrating its 17th year of delivering excellent education to students.

History

Founded more than 16 years ago by dedicated parents Alan and Inae Piercy, Soundview School was created to incorporate a combination of core philosophies unlike any other local independent school. The Piercy’s passion and dedication to education is evident throughout the halls of Soundview School, which was built using their emotional, physical and monetary investments.

1996 – Inae and Alan Piercy founded Soundview School

2002 – Soundview School became a 501c3 non-profit independent school

2007 -Soundview School adopted the International Baccalaureate curriculum

2009 – Soundview Middle School was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to be an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School

2009-10 – The Positive Discipline Model was incorporated into the school’s curricular framework to support the IB Programme.

2010-11 – The Critical Thinking Model was incorporated into the school’s curricular framework to further support the mission of the IB Programme.

Soundview School’s curriculum framework is based on three models: the International Baccalaureate Programme, Critical Thinking and Positive Discipline. Soundview’s arts program is also a part of our core curriculum and every Soundview student learns how to express their creativity and self expression through music, movements and visual art.

The school’s solid curriculum framework provides common languages between the teachers and students and offers a consistent way of reinforcing intellectual and character habits so that students practice mastering these skills and habits throughout their Soundview education. The goal of a Soundview education is that creativity and self expression become natural habits of our students and that an arts education is woven through many aspects of their education.

The Soundview School campus was built to meet the curriculum’s needs and provides the spaces necessary to nurture the learning process.

Over the next 17 years we are committed to providing:

  • A customized learning environment for all students.
  • Engagement in integrated, service-oriented projects.
  • Active involvement in our school and neighborhood.
  • Being a model school for Positive Discipline curriculum.

Smoothing The Way of Vancouver

Welcome to Smoothing the Way! Our desire is to serve and assist you, the new or prospective home educator, to be confident in your ability to teach your own children at HOME and to do so legally!

The Smoothing the Way material was written by Christians and the meeting format and information will often have a Christian flavor. But we have found these meetings to be helpful to all who attend, regardless of their particular belief system. It is endorsed by Triune Biblical University.

Our monthly meetings are a forum with a veteran speaker who will encourage you and equip you to meet the challenges of your first year of home-schooling. It will also be a great time of Q & A, along with meeting new home-schoolers just like you. We have a wonderful time as we face challenges together, lending a helping hand to each other. In addition to the information you receive at monthly meetings, your leaders will help you locate activities and opportunities in your area. If you are a new homeschooler, know a new homeschooler or are someone who is simply facing some challenges in new areas of home-schooling, Smoothing The Way would be delighted to assist you.

A Member’s Notebook will be built month by month and will hold all handouts. An outline for each topic will be covered at the monthly meeting. A list of resources pertaining to that subject is included in the outline. By the end of the year, your notebook will have developed into a reference tool you will use for years to come. Materials renowned by homeschoolers will be available for purchase at meetings.

Smoothing the Way will benefit you the most if you begin the program in September and attend as many meetings as possible throughout the year. Regular attendance will also give you more opportunities to deepen your friendships with other homeschoolers. We do know, however, that people begin home schooling all through the year. For this reason, you are welcome to join Smoothing the Way at any time! The most important thing is for you to find the support you need to make you a more successful homeschooler.

Feel free to discuss curriculum, and share links to educational sites, freebies or other family oriented sites. Let’s not be argumentative or question others’ beliefs. Please keep it friendly and informative. I look foward to sharing information and hearing from all you homeschoolers in Lewis and Thurston counties.

Homeschooling In Christ

Homeschooling In Christ is a Christian homeschool support group serving families in the Snohomish County area of Washington State since 1999. We are a non-denominational, Christ-centered, support group, desiring to help each person grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

JesusWe are Christian families dedicated to observing the following Biblical commands outlined in Deuteronomy 6, Proverbs 22, and Ephesians 6:

To train our children in the love and teaching of the Lord.

To educate our children to become servants of Christ.

To make a difference in today’s world.

We provide information on educational opportunities, academic and curriculum reviews, guidance, encouragement, and spiritual support. We also enjoy regular activities including monthly parent meetings, field trips, play dates, Bible studies and monthly Mom’s Night Out. We are made-up entirely of families who volunteer their time to make these activities possible.

Statement of Purpose

To support each other in our endeavor to educate our children in an atmosphere that would bring honor and glory to God.

To assist parents who are considering homeschooling in making an informed decision.

To encourage educational growth for teaching parents.

To facilitate the social and educational growth of homeschooled children.

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible authoritative Word of God.

We believe that there is only one God.

We believe that faith in Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the Salvation of sinful, lost men.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost—those who are saved to be the resurrection of life, and those who are lost to be the resurrection of condemnation. (John 3:16, 2 Cor. 5:17, 1 John 2:1-2, John 3:3-7)

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ, the evidence of that unity being shown by how much we love one another.

We believe that God was before all things, and He alone is the creator of the universe.

We believe that salvation is by faith, through grace. (Ephesians 2:8)

We believe that all must believe the Gospel to be saved.

Heritage

Welcome to Heritage!

We are a homeschool cooperative which meets in Bellevue, Washington.

Heritage provides a wide variety of K-12 classes each Wednesday, enriching the learning experience for around 140 homeschool families. If your oldest child is at least 5 as of August 31 of the current school year, we encourage you to join us.

Looking for a Homeschool Co-op?

Our families enjoy Heritage not just for the wide range of exciting classes for students, but also because Heritage provides a great way for kids to make friends and enjoy the homeschool experience even more. Just as important, Heritage parents appreciate the family-friendly atmosphere and the support and information we all share with each other. Homeschooling is hard work. Heritage makes it a lot more enjoyable.

If you’re interested in joining Heritage, check out our class offerings and schedule and other information on this site. If you’re ready to join, just go to the Join Heritage page for all the details.

About Heritage Homeschool Cooperative

Heritage Homeschool Co-Op was founded in 2003 and is dedicated to promoting and supporting homeschooling on the greater Seattle Eastside. We are a community of 140+ homeschooling families which meets at Westminster Chapel in Bellevue, WA on Wednesdays. Classes are offered in 4 class periods from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and includes a variety of classes for K – 12th grade students. We provide preschool and nursery for families with K-12 students enrolled.

Heritage provides its families an opportunity to extend their children’s learning experience one day a week by engaging your child in small classroom settings and providing an opportunity to develop friends and develop social and study skills in a fun group environment. Heritage is designed to compliment the instruction you provide at home.

We believe that being involved in the education of our children is a unique ministry and in keeping with this, Heritage teachers and Board members sign a Statement of Faith which covers the basic tenets of Biblical Christianity.

Our mission is driven by the following:

The Ministry of Educating our Families

We believe that the privilege of educating our children is entrusted by God.

A Supportive and Caring Place

Homeschooling can be really hard at times. Heritage strives to be a friendly place where families support and care for each other. Many families comment that the parental support is as important to them as the quality instruction their children receive.

Small Size

Heritage’s small size allows us to maintain a friendly environment where people get to know each other while still offering an exciting range of subjects.

All learning at Harbor Christian Homeschool is to be Biblically based and encourage personal growth of faith in Jesus Christ. We desire to equip children with skills and tools to continually learn for a lifetime. The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

for attaining wisdom and discipline;

for understanding words of insight;

for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life;

doing what is right and just and fair;

for giving prudence to the simple,

knowledge and discretion to the young-

let the wise listen and add to their learning,

and let the discerning get guidance-

for understanding proverbs and parables,

the sayings and riddles of the wise.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,

but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction

GSN

What’s different about GSN? Why can’t I just go directly to the curriculum source?

The difference is that Global Student Network recognizes that homeschool parents are fully capable of teaching their own children, and our curriculum supports the student and parent towards academic success. Parents are always enrolled in the “teacher’s” module, so they have the answer keys to every single lesson.

Finding good quality curriculum is the most challenging aspect of homeschooling. Ask any homeschooler, and everybody has an opinion. GSN has taken the guesswork out of the process. The Global Courseware is simply the best online curriculum available for K-12 anywhere, bar none. It is only available to homeschoolers through GSN.

Isn’t online curriculum more expensive through GSN?

No, emphatically no. For almost 10 years, Global Student Network has been the leader in providing online curriculum directly to homeschoolers. We’ve chosen the very best online curriculum available, and because of our volume purchasing power can pass on significant savings to homeschool families. Most companies increase their prices over time. GSN continues to find ways to save homeschoolers money. We’ve always offered multiple student discounts, and rewarded homeschoolers for referring other homeschoolers. Starting in 2012, all GSN homeschool families saw at least 15% savings in their online curriculum costs.

What kind of support can I expect from GSN.

That’s a tough question to answer, but the short form is: The Right Amount. We have found that every homeschool family needs a different amount of support for their student’s academic success. GSN is the curriculum expert, and we hope we can help with any question regarding curriculum. More importantly, we’ve learned a lot of lessons from homeschoolers over the years, and we’re pleased to pass on what we’ve learned. Here’s some of the ways we support homeschoolers:

Documentation. One of the challenges of homeschooling is documenting the student’s academic success to lead to successful college or career development. See our “Homeschool Education Portfolio Section for more information on documenting your student’s work.

Course Progression and Selection: Homeschool students should be guided by graduation requirements of the school district or state they live in. We’re glad to help students navigate local requirements and select courses that lead them towards graduation.

Individualized Support. In other words, we’re here for you. We’ve got a lot of ways to communicate with you, and we’re always looking for new ways to support your homeschool needs. For new enrollment questions, use our toll free number, e-mail contact, or our Live Chat. You can also follow us on Facebook, Linked in, and Twitter. The only question we can’t try to answer is the one that you don’t ask.

How does the Global Courseware work for homeschoolers?

Global Student Network enrolls the student in the “student” portal and the parent in the “teacher” portal. The homeschool parent is the teacher, principal, dean, and coach – in charge of your student’s education.

What does it cost to get started?

The annual license fee for homeschoolers is $450 for our Global Courseware program and slightly higher for a variety of other program options. That license fee includes unlimited courses for an entire year.

What Courses are included in Global Courseware?

Global Courseware includes all academic courses required for grades K-12. Elementary and Middle School courses include Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. High School courses include those four core areas as well as Foreign Languages and many electives.

Can Courses be added after enrollment?

Yes, with the unlimited course license, classes can be added anytime during the year using the add-a-course form.

Does Global Courseware include College Preparatory courses?

Yes, each high school courses can be considered College Prep. Also, there are several math and science courses in the “Integrated” category that contain less theoretical constructs and more practical applications.

GATE Homeschool Group

Gentle Art of True Education

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13,14

Gentle – fruit of gentleness growing in our lives
Art – homeschooling is an art
True – seeking God’s Truth to guide us
Education – joyful learning by living, reading & exploring

We are a group that formed for homeschooling support and fellowship in Snohomish County (Marysville, Snohomish, Everett & close by). The group was started by some moms with specific interests in common including Christian attachment parenting, gentle discipline, teaching through real life & good books, and a desire to learn about Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education. The vision was to have a group of families with similar interests for fellowship and shared activities. We began with families with young children.

The GATE Group has been growing. Children range in age from newborn to thirteen this year. Current members of the group are Christian families who are interested in the writings of Charlotte Mason. While the families of our group have a variety of interests, opinions, convictions, parenting styles, and use various materials, our common ground is Christian faith and a foundation of Charlotte Mason’s gentle philosophy of education.

Requirements for Group Membership:
Christian Faith, Interest in Charlotte Mason, and Currently homeschooling under the RCW 28A.200 Law

This school year (2013 – 2014) we have planned monthly service projects, monthly field trips, monthly nature walks and monthly park days.

Fort Lewis Homeschoolers

The Fort Lewis Homeschool (FLH) Group is a nonpartisan loosely structured group of homeschoolers from different backgrounds, each using a variety of homeschooling methods or philosophies for educating our children at home. We are brought together by our common bond: having an active duty, or former active duty, family member stationed at a base in Washington State.

The group’s purpose is to:

1) Meet socially, both on- and off-post, for activities and play;
2) Support one another as we homeschool while facing unique stressors related to military life, such as deployment of a spouse;
3) Help homeschoolers newly assigned to the Fort Lewis and McChord area meet others and locate homeschooling resources in the community

All homeschoolers affiliated with the military and who are located in Washington State are welcome. While we do not endorse any particular religious or philosophical tradition we do require respectful and tolerant dialogue. Members are encouraged to post ideas for get-togethers, activities, field trips or information particularly relevant to homeschoolers at Fort Lewis. Off-topic posts are also allowed with the words “Off Topic” included in the subject line.

Frog Hollow School

Frog Hollow School is a one day a week writing program for homeschoolers. Frog Hollow offers two separate classes for ages seven through twelve, one on Wednesdays in Carnation and one on Fridays in Seattle. Frog Hollow is also now offering expository writing classes for teens.

More about Frog Hollow:

The elementary age curriculum integrates arts, music, social studies, mythology, and ecology into a solid core of language arts. Through a mix of writing, art projects, stories, singing, creative play, and outdoor exploration, students receive a firm foundation in creative writing, rhetoric, grammar, spelling, and literature. As they explore written language from many angles, they develop their own sense of themselves as writers. Part of each day is also spent at the park playing and exploring nature.

Frog Hollow is experiential and interest-led. Students work at their own pace in a mixed-age environment that fosters mutual respect and the joy of learning. Class meets for a full school day, allowing parents a large block of time for other things.

We are a Washington nonprofit organization working with families who have children with special needs. A majority of our families have children with some form of autism, but we welcome any diagnosis, disability or difference. Our nonprofit and support group were featured in the Children’s Museum of Tacoma’s annual “Playing Under the Stars” fundraiser video. This year’s fundraising focus was how the museum can further build their relationship with and better serve the special needs community. We are proud to be a part of those efforts and thank the museum for letting our Executive Director, Angela Fish, speak at their gala immediately following the viewing of this video. Eastside Unschoolers

This is a group for Unschoolers (and unschooler-friendly homeschoolers) living in the Eastside area in WA (for example, Bellevue, Woodinville, Renton, North Bend.) Unschoolers from farther afield are also welcome to join. The main goal of this list is to provide support and make connections with like-minded people. We have occasional gatherings and field trips (and are always open to lots more, we just need someone to get them started!)

As this is an unschooler list, questions about curriculum and schooling matters are mostly off-topic. That said, we’ve talked about them quite a bit as new members often are searching for help with all types of homeschooling and life matters. Before you ask the group about schoolish things, please go to our website, (groups.yahoo.com/groups/EastsideUnschoolers) and do a search. You’ll probably find that we’ve already discussed your question, often in depth. Go to messages and just above the posts you will find a box for searching our posts. Type in something like “math” or “legal requirements” and see what pops up. You may find that all your questions have already been answered. If your question still remains unanswered then please do ask the group.

Feel free to post any other type of questions or comments and share resources. For unschoolers, there are very few things that are off-topic! I request that we all be respectful of each other’s individual goals and beliefs.  Check out the LINKS and DATABASE sections for great activties, homeschooling info, and Doctor/business recommendations. CCHE

Mission

CCHE’s mission is to assist parents in making an informed choice about homeschooling, facilitate community awareness of homeschooling, and to offer annual events, support, and resources to all who are homeschooling.

CCHE desires to glorify God in all that we do, promoting freedom for all homeschoolers and for Christ-centered family values.

CCHE membership is open to all interested persons in sympathy with the purpose of CCHE. This includes parents, grandparents, teachers, et cetera and is not limited to those with school age children. As an organization, CCHE is consistently and forthrightly Christian in all of its activities and publications. However, members are not required to agree with our Statement of Faith.

CCHE has a board of directors who are volunteer homeschooling parents and a membership of families throughout Clark County.

HOW CCHE CAME TO BE

In the summer of 1988, a group of seven homeschool mothers met because they felt a common need to build a support network for homeschooling families. Homeschooling was just beginning to take root. Through many hours of effort and community contact, Clark County Home Educators was formed.

As of summer, 2013, CCHE is 25 years old.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We Believe:

The Bible is the only inspired and infallible written word of God

There is one living and true God who exists for all eternity in three persons– Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit (ie: The Trinity)

All men are sinners and in need of salvation

The Lord Jesus was born of a virgin, died on the cross, rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven

We are saved by grace, through faith, which is a gift of God, not our own works. Those who confess that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that He rose from the dead will be saved

Our hope is not of the things in this world, but on our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have received eternal life.

Christian Heritage upholds the God-given responsibility of home-based discipleship and education that is parent-directed, free from government control, and Christ-centered to the glory of God.

Mission

Christian Heritage equips parents to Biblically disciple and educate their children. Christian Heritage accomplishes this through events, instruction, training, resources, and support.

Purpose

Our purpose is to help you catch, maintain, and achieve this vision as teachers, and disciplers of your children. We consider it an honor to serve you – to help you, by God’s grace, make this vision a reality in your family.

Events

One avenue for accomplishing our purpose will be regional and statewide events to give you encouragement and practical instruction on many topics of concern and interest to homeschooling families. From how to effectively teach academics to how to keep things organized to how Dad can be involved to moving beyond homeschooling – we plan to cover it all! In fact, if you become a member you can have a say in what topics are covered.

Networking

Networking Christian homeschoolers is also one of our aims through these events and through our membership system. Helping you make contact with Christian homeschoolers in your area – and throughout the state – is a priority because we know the importance of having support and encouragement in the long haul of the home education process. We invite you to become a Christian Heritage member and participate in the Christian Heritage Network where you can connect with like-minded people in your area who share your interests and desire to serve the Lord.

Services

In addition to our statewide and regional events we offer an informative website, periodic e-newsletters, CD’s of our event messages for through-the-year encouragement, support group leaders help & support, as well as other materials and resources to get you started and keep you going in the exciting homeschool adventure.

Liberty

At the forefront of our minds is the preservation of your right to educate your children as you choose. This is why we strongly support Christian Homeschool Network of Washington (CHN) and work closely with them to help preserve our Washington State homeschool liberties. We encourage you to keep updated on current state educational issues through the CHN website and newsletter and to support them with your finances and prayer. See the www.chnow.org to find out how you can make a difference. We also urge you to join the Home School Legal Defense Association for vital legal protection. See www.HSLDA.org for more information.

CHEE

C.H.E.E. (Christian Homeschoolers for Excellence in Education), is a Christian homeschool support group, whose goal is to encourage homeschooling families. We are open to all homeschoolers, Christian or non-Christian, in terms of giving encouragement, ideas and assistance. Because we are a Christian support group, under Christian leadership, we openly profess and practice our Christian faith in our daily lives and at our meetings. We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God; we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and we believe that God is One God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is God the Son and that we are saved only by faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

In 1987, several Christian homeschooling families formed C.H.E.E., to encourage and support one another in the calling to homeschool their children. CHEE recognizes that there are several options available to parents who want to educate their children outside of the traditional classroom, including Homeschool Extension Programs offered by private schools and Alternative Education Programs offered by the public schools. While respecting each family’s educational choice, C.H.E.E.’s ongoing purpose and goal, which will be reflected at our meetings and in our correspondence, is to encourage families in the Independent Home Schooling of their children.

We will be sharing teaching tips and styles, ideas and techniques in the home school environment, and supplies and resources to meet our various home school needs. We will also coordinate meetings and activities that encourage friendships and fellowship between homeschooling families. We encourage one another to use our God-given gifts, talents, skills and ideas to truly bring about excellence in the character and education of our children.

C.A.P.E.

What is C.A.P.E.?

The Christian Association of Parent Educators, or CAPE, is a nonprofit, nondenominational, Christian Organization, made up of parent volunteers, who work to support, serve, and connect homeschool families in the greater Yakima Area. We serve families from Ellensburg to Sunnyside. CAPE is governed by a board of at least five directors who are required to sign a statement of faith. CAPE serves families who are just beginning their homeschool journey and have infant children through those getting ready to graduate! If you are new to homeschooling and have questions about our group or homeschooling in general, please contact us:

C.A.P.E. Statement of Faith

We Believe:

  • The Bible is the only inspired and infallible Word of God.
  • There is one living and true God who exists for all eternity in three persons-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • All men are sinners and in need of salvation.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, died on the cross, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended into heaven.
  • We are saved by grace through faith, which is a gift of God, not of our own works. Those who confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in their hearts that He rose from the dead will be saved.
  • That our hope is not in the things of this world, but on your Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have received eternal life.

Enrichment Homeschool

Please read this statement, and sign the enrollment contract, stating that you have read this document and understand and respect that these are the doctrinal beliefs maintained by the ACTS, Inc. Respecting this Statement of Faith is a condition of membership in Albemarle Christian Teaching Support. Please keep this copy for your records. Our Statement of Faith includes only those truths upon which all true Christians agree. It concerns the Person and Work of Jesus Christ (the Gospel) as revealed in Scripture. It is the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 2, Eph. 4:5) which distinguishes believers from non-believers. There are many other precious truths taught in the Bible over which godly men have differed in understanding. Therefore, this is not a statement of all that is important to believe, but of all that is essential to believe for Christian fellowship and unity (Rom. 15:7). * We believe the Bible to be the inspired, authoritative, infallible and inerrant Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential, and that this salvation is received through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and not as a result of good works We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life and to perform good works We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (*Adapted from HSLDA and from the National Association of Evangelical’s Statement of Faith)

All ACTS leadership and faculty must read, respect, and agree with this statement of faith. This ensures that those who believe in the Bible and who follow Christ lead our organization and teach our children. They are committed to providing this organization as a service for each other and for all area home educating families. Our leaders and teachers will make decisions and plan activities that are pleasing to God and are in accordance with his Word. It is not a goal of our organization to focus on growing ourselves or to seek approval from those who disagree with our philosophy, decisions or activities. This statement allows ACTS to be inclusive; allowing any family, regardless of belief or background, to be members. It also ensures that all members are aware of the Biblical basis on which ACTS makes its decisions and plans its activities. Although our organization does not require everyone to maintain the same beliefs, doctrines or philosophy, it does require that members respect this statement of faith.

Arts in Motion

Arts in Motion (AIM) celebrated nine years of teaching over 6,000 students through August 2013. We have guided youth in music, art and civic involvement. I am proud to say that we have assisted our up and coming leaders in achieving quality music and arts skills, significant life skills and a deep sense of lifelong enjoyment in simply being alive. Alas, AIM is no longer able to keep its doors open. But what we have done is this: WE have opened doors. This is worthy of great celebration – as the center of creativity is and will always be built on a simple statement: keep moving on; give us more to see. Needless to say, this is a difficult time for me, filled with laughter, many tears, some regret and a sense of pride. The Board and administrative staff wish to thank each of you for your participation and support in making AIM a reality and making it possible to provide our programs to the community. Please do not hesitate to contact me at (206) 303-7071 and/or denise.m@aimschool.org. I would love to hear from you.

ACTS Homeschool Group

ACTS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation run solely by volunteers. We rely on God’s guidance for all our activities. Our group has activities for families and their children ages birth through high school. Please see our website for locations and schedules.

ACTS Homeschool Group recognizes the fact that some families have chosen to enroll their student(s) in some public and/or private school classes or fund a portion of their educational expenses with the use of Alternative Education Program funds. We believe that involvement in these programs should be left to the discretion of each family. ACTS Homeschool Group does not encourage or promote families to participate in public school or Alt/Ed activities and does not accept any funds from these programs. ACTS policy limits student(s) involvement in any educational classroom setting outside the home to a maximum of 15 hours per week in order to be eligible for enrollment in ACTS.

ACTS offers families the opportunity to supplement their homeschooling with academic and enrichment classes and events. Joining this group also means becoming a member of a Christian community where families work together and are willing to serve with a spirit of unity and cooperation. Here we share blessing, support, fellowship, accountability and responsibility. When each member uses their time, talents and energy to help, the group runs smoothly and we all enjoy the blessing. Please take some prayerful time to read through this handbook. If you then feel ACTS would be a support for your family, we would love for you to join us.

Three Dragons Academy

Once again, Three Dragons Academy has earned a mention in a list of great Seattle Homeschool Resources! Thanks, Chessa at Five’OClock Dance Party!! Best starting points for Homeschooling in Seattle

>>> Our first-ever TDA Invention Convention was a HUGE success!!

Ye be ready for October’s Theme? ‘Tis “Avast Ye Pirates!”!! Real theatrical swordplay, historical costuming, ship design, cartography and course charting, history of infamous swashbucklers such as Edward ‘Blackbeard’ Teach and Anne Bonney, and treasure hunts be ahead, ye young scallywags!!

>>> Our theme for September is…. “Presenting: Inventing!” : we’re studying inventions, both ancient and modern, from well-known ‘celebrity’ inventors such as Edison and Da Vinci, as well as dozens of KID inventors. September ends with a ‘school-wide’ Invention Convention, where our students will demonstrate and showcase their very own creative inventions (genres include everything ranging from improved paper airplanes, to Lisa the Robot, to original Graphic Novels, to double-headed grappling hooks, to innovative new recipes!!).

>>> The new TDA School Year has started! – both new and returning students are excited, we’re bursting with energy ourselves (and can barely contain the great themes lineup this year), we’re near maximum enrollment and the waiting pool is active, our landlord (University Heights Center) is renovating the p-patch, the playground, and the parking lot, AND we’ve got a new addition to our office: a sink! If that weren’t enough, we’ve again been fortunate enough to welcome a great group of families that have joined our learning community!! What a fantastic way to start our year at Three Dragons!!!

Christian Homeschool Cub Scout Pack 201

Pack 201 was started in 1999 to serve the homeschooling community through scouting. We are a family oriented pack rather than a “drop-off pack.” Everything we do is to first benefit the family while we seek to grow our boys into Godly men. Besides a once a month pack/den meeting, our activities include monthly hikes, field trips and service projects. Tigers start their scouting experience in 1st grade and continue through Webelos. When boys turn 11 years old or achieve the highest award in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light, they move on to Boy Scouts. In addition, any girl sibling, 1st grade or above, is invited to join our “Keepers of the Faith” scouting program. Younger siblings participate in “Safari Scouts.”

Our mission is to provide families in the home school community with a quality scouting experience that encourages leadership and character building through knowledge of life skills and duty to God and country as taught through the scout handbooks. Pack 201 is home-centered, and encourages scouting type activities for the whole family.

Pack 201 was organized in 1999 by a group of parents looking for an alternative to traditional scouting that would provide activities for the entire family. The intent is to provide a place where boys can build character, skills, and leadership qualities and to develop mentally, morally and physically. “Cooperate With Others” and “Do Your Best” are central themes throughout our meetings, activities, and events, providing educational opportunities that are exciting and fun.

We currently meet as a Pack on the Third Thursday of the Month from September to May at 1:15pm – 3:30pm at the Foothills Baptist Church – 10120 Issaquah Hobart Road Southeast, Issaquah, WA 98027 From I-90 just head south on Front Street for a couple of miles and we will be on your left.

Other Thursdays we have a den meeting, go on a hike or field trip, or perform a community service or conservation project. During the summer we go to Day Camp. Join us for scouting fun! Call or email to check on meeting times & locations.

HOPE Homeschool Co-op

Hope Home School Co-op provides home school children an opportunity to be accountable in a “traditional” school environment. Classes convene for two semesters at Rainier View Christian Church from 9:30 am until 3:00 pm each Friday from September through April. Children have the opportunity to participate in as many as four 55 minute classes each Friday, with a 45 minute lunch in the middle of the day. Children rotate between classrooms similar to a “traditional” school.

HOPE is NOT a daycare or preschool. Nursery through preschool care is provided ONLY for younger siblings of students registered for co-op classes. At least one child must meet HOPE’s eligibility requirement for Kindergarten by the first day of co-op. A parent/guardian is required to volunteer their time AND required to remain at the facility while their child is present. Member benefits include weekly accountability to a non-parent teacher, healthy competition, teamwork, and the challenges of interpersonal relationships with various age groups.

HOPE Home School Co-op is a SUPPLEMENT to your own home school program, it is not meant to be the only curriculum you use. HOPE does not dictate that certain classes be taught. The only classes offered each semester are those parent/teachers volunteer to teach. Depending upon the classes offered, HOPE might provide the basis for a student’s academic requirements (i.e. math, science, language arts history) along with opportunities less frequently offered in the home (i.e. choir, drama, foreign language, art), however HOPE should only be relied upon as a supplement.
