Youth For Understanding

Youth For Understanding YFU-USA, is one of the oldest and largest student exchange organizations in the world. We will be hosting over 2000 international high school students during the 2010/2011 school year. Our students bring new talent and culture to your school. We also offer Americans Overseas (AO) opportunities, a chance for your students to travel overseas for a semester, a summer, or a year.

• Host Family Opportunity
We are seeking families to host one of our incoming exchange students for 12 weeks, a semester or an entire school year. Families would provide a place to live, three meals a day, encouragement, guidance and love to your new exchange son/daughter. It is a typical family living experience. Families come in all shapes and sizes, empty nesters, or with children of all ages. The students come with their own spending money, health insurance, and the commitment to live according to the rules and values of your family and Youth for Understanding (www.yfu-usa.org). They can share a room with a host sibling, arrive in August and spend 11 months until June with the family.

• American Overseas Opportunity
On a YFU Exchange, the student will live with a host family, speak a new language, experience a new culture, make new friends, and change how they view the world. Many countries are available for a semester, a summer, or a school year. YFU awards over 300 scholarships annually. Check out the scholarship pages on our website at www.yfu-usa.org or call 1.800.TEENAGE with any questions. (Application deadlines vary)

• Volunteer Opportunities
YFU is a strong and vibrant volunteer based organization, with one of the largest international exchange scholarship programs in the world. If you know of someone who enjoys working with teenagers and families and wants to promote increased intercultural understanding – we may have a place for you.

TORCH Boulder County

To join the TORCH chapter in the Boulder County area (includes cities like Longmont, Boulder, Firestone, Mead, Erie, Louisville, Lafayette, Superior)… Please come to a few TORCH calendar events and visit with some of our families.

You must have taken or plan to take the Virtus Training program offered through the Archdiocese of Denver in the first 3 months of joining TORCH. If you haven’t already had someone invite you to a TORCH event, you will be given a “sponsor”. Your sponsor family will ensure you are notified of upcoming events and be sure that you have a chance to meet others in our TORCH group. Lastly, after a few events or a few weeks time, if you feel our TORCH group is a fit for you and your family, you will be introduced to the entire TORCH group and registered for the website. Also, you must read over the TORCH Rules and Regulations (below). Contact longmont@torchbouldercounty.com for any additional questions and information.

TORCH Rules and Regulations:

1. TORCH members may not use the TORCH member list to distribute emails regarding non-TORCH business including: jokes, anecdotes(even inspiring ones), personal, political or spiritual causes, petitions, chain letters of any kind, non-TORCH related fundraisers, and home-based business.

2. Members with home-based businesses may not use a TORCH function to promote or sell any product line. You can not make a public presentation or display any products. You can, in your private conversations, talk about your business. And if people want to order something, or ask for a catalogue, they’re certainly welcome to. You are welcome to invite TORCH members to your product parties; just don’t use the TORCH member list to send your email. You’ll need to construct a different group list, which for most of you, would likely include additional folks who are not TORCH members anyway.

P.R.A.I.S.E. Homeschool Group

We are Parents Raising And Instruction Students for Eternity.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 We believe homeschooling provides the very best opportunity to direct your child’s spiritual, moral, and academic development. The diversity of educational approaches allow you to tailor your program with your child’s unique learning style and it helps to provide a strong family foundation in today’s increasingly chaotic and fragmented society.

Statement of Faith:

We believe in God the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord: Who conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. On the third day he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe that marriage is the physical, spiritual, and legal union between one man and one woman as illustrated in Genesis 2:23-24; Titus 1:6, I Cor. 6:9-10. We believe that children are a gift from God and that their parents have the responsibility and God given authority to train and educate their own children. Our foundation is prayer, acknowledging God’s leadership & direction in all our decisions. Our leadership is unabashedly Christian and will be consistent with Evangelical Christian doctrine, values, & our statement of faith.

TO JOIN:

Be an active homeschooling family.

Agree with our statement of faith.

Pay an annual membership fee of $25 (covers events, speakers, paper goods, church donation and website)

We invite you to join us at our next monthly meeting or group event.

We meet at South Fellowship Church in Littleton at 6560 S. Broadway.

Hearts at Home HSSG is a Christian homeschool support group located in the Highlands Ranch/Littleton and surrounding areas. Our group has been in existence since 1997. We aim to provide support to homeschool families through a variety of activities including: mom’s night out, family social events, educational field trips, history and science fairs, events for 11 and up kids, and various educational presentations. Hearts at Home HSSG is a great place to connect and support each other as we journey through life homeschooling our kids. Moms can find information, creative ideas, prayer support, curriculum ideas and more on our forum. Hearts at Home HSSG helps kids connect with other home school kids through both educational and social events. It is a great place to find like-minded, Christian families who feel called to homeschool their children.

This allows for even more fellowship and friendship building as we all work together throughout the year. Foothills Homeschoolers

Welcome to Foothills Homeschoolers website. We are a group of about 60 Christian families who homeschool our children in the SW metro area. The main focus of our group is mentoring and supporting homeschool families and moms so they can finish the “adventure” set before them. We don’t want the children in our group to just get through the journey of homeschooling, but we want them to enjoy the time spent with their parents and growing closer to God . We want them to “finish well”. We hope to build relationships with other homeschool families through prayer, support, fellowship, and outings.

Our monthly events consist of family gatherings on the 3rd Monday of each month. We have field trips and educational activities for all ages and many events to provide “socialization” for everyone in the whole family. We have a wide range of families who are on all different stretches of this homeschool journey. We do not all attend the same church, and we do not use the same curriculum.

We don’t have required monthly dues or required participation in planning activities. We do however ask that each family remember that a group can not continue if all do not do their part. Please prayerfully consider how your family will be able to serve this group. There is a yearly $6 charge collected in October for joining this website.

“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.” Acts 20:24

Agape Family Schools

WHO WE ARE

Agape is a Christian support group for home school families in Loveland and the surrounding area. Our goal is to foster support and relationships, driven by educational and social opportunities. We are a forthright Christian group, with no affiliation to any specific church or denomination. We are simply homeschooling parents who desire to come together with like-minded believers to support each other. Agape hosts monthly support meetings on the last Monday of most months, during the school year. There will be a speaker or activity scheduled, and time to socialize is always part of the agenda. Fathers are welcome and encouraged to come. Childcare is offered as needed

Agape activities are determined by what members desire and are willing to set up or facilitate. Field trips, co-ops, small groups such as teen nights and moms night out often occur though out the school year. All correspondence goes out through our email loop. This is where we share field trips and other upcoming activities. There is a private calendar for members which shows the schedule of all activities for the group each month. A library is available for Agape participants. It holds a wealth of homeschool books and resources. Supplies (microscope, educational games, test prep resources, etc.) are also available for check out. The library is open for an hour before each Family Meeting. The Agape Participant Card is distributed to each family. It can be used as proof of homeschooling, or to receive a discount at many local retailers. It also allows you free checkout of educational trunks at the Loveland Museum.

Each spring Agape provides several great opportunities for families. Testing with Iowa Test of Basic Skills is available, as well as a six week series of co-op classes, and an outstanding Graduation service for Seniors. In the summer we schedule get togethers weekly at the park Agape is a member driven organization, and members vote in officers to lead the group. Leadership decisions are based on the expressed needs and desires of the participants. There is a membership fee of $30 per family each year. This pays for our meeting place, website and . Extra fees may apply for some of the activities (such as field trips and electives classes). Scholarships are available for those who need it, and split payments are also accepted.
