York Home School Association

The York Home School Association is a Christian support group located in York, Pennsylvania. YHSA strives through all of its efforts to bring glory to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as prescribed in the Nicene Creed.

The mission of YHSA is to encourage excellence and integrity in home schooling. YHSA exists to serve the interests of parents educating their children at home under Act 169, the Pennsylvania Home Education Law of 1988; this does not include those enrolling their children in cyber or charter schools, which are part of the government school system in Pennsylvania.

YHSA is a volunteer run ministry. Through the involvement and effort of all of its member families, YHSA can provide encouragement and resources for families, assist new home schoolers, and provide academic and social interaction with other parents and children sharing similar concerns and educational goals.

TRACCHS Co-op

While we represent many denominations, we intend that all of our activities and interactions be clearly consistent with Biblical principles. Our MEMBERS ONLY Yahoo Group address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TRACCHS/ . Classes meet at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, which is located on Fish Hill Road in Tannersville, PA 18372.

TRACCHS Co-op is not a school. We are a ministry that offers opportunities to local home educating families to join with others to accomplish those aspects of education that are enhanced in a group setting or are difficult for some parents to teach. Parents retain full responsibility for the education of their children. By conducting ourselves according to Biblical principles of relationship, we offer each other the needed assistance, support and encouragement to accomplish mutual goals.

It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that all students understand and adhere to TRACCHS Co-op rules and guidelines. Adults and student participants 4th Grade and up must sign a Participation Covenant/Agreement prior to participation.

Pennsylvania Home Educators Association

Pennsylvania Home Educators Association (PHEA) is an inclusive statewide coalition of home educators whose primary purpose is to provide accurate information and advocate for Pennsylvania home educators.

PHEA believes in the freedom to home educate with confidence and without fear.

PHEA actively endorses efforts to reduce or eliminate regulation, control, and oversight of home educators.

PHEA believes knowledge equals empowerment.

PHEA encourages its members to freely exchange information regarding home education.

PHEA is not associated with any religion or educational methodology.

During the Pennsylvania legislative session of 2000 – 2002, HB2560 was introduced by Representative Sam Rohrer to provide legislative relief to beleaguered PA home educators.

While HB2560 was defeated in the House Education committee in November 2002, hopes to improve the home education climate in Pennsylvania remain as strong as ever. Pennsylvania Home Educators Association (PHEA) was created to advocate for these changes. PHEA is a coalition of home educators providing information gleaned from our cumulative experience with PA home education law since it’s passage in 1988.

It is the goal of PHEA to provide accurate information and facilitate communication and networking within Pennsylvania’s home educating community. While PHEA is an inclusive organization, PHEA actively endorses efforts to reduce or eliminate regulation, control, and oversight of home educators.

“Since parents have conferred life on their children, they have a most solemn obligation to educate their offspring. Hence, parents must be acknowledged as the first and foremost educators of their children. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is without error.

We believe that there is only one true God and that God has existed from all eternity in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Divine Son come to earth, being both fully God and fully man, except without sin.

We believe that salvation is a free gift, purchased through the blood by Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross, to all who receive Him as their personal Lord and Savior.

Catholic Homeschoolers of PA

“Catholic home schooling”, as defined by the late Fr. John Hardon, S.J.,” is the planned and organized teaching and training of children at home, for their peaceful and effective life in this world, and for their eternal salvation in the world to come.” The current laws pertaining to homeschooling in Pennsylvania were passed by our legislature in 1988. This web site introduces you to the statewide network of Catholic Homeschoolers of Pennsylvania and briefly explains the essential elements of homeschooling in Pennsylvania. This network serves hundreds of Catholic families in Pennsylvania who are faithful to the Magisterium of the Church & Pope John Paul II and who find home education to be their response to the Church’s teaching to be the primary educators of their children.

Tapestry of Friends Christian Homeschool Network

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…

Q: What are the various levels of involvement you offer?  What is required of me if my kids take classes?

A: At Tapestry, the commitment level is completely up to you.  We desire each person to do only what the Lord has for them to do.  Since only you can know what kind of commitment level is best for your family, we encourage you to seek the Lord for His leading & follow it closely.  For some, the Lord may lead to pursue membership by teaching a class one hour & helping another hour each semester.  For others, it may be to be a guest with no service commitments required whatsoever.  Other guests are led to help with light service commitments.  We are happy for you to do whichever is God’s lead as we know His lead is best.

Should you feel led to be more involved, you are welcome to serve via some of our light duties if you’d like (class helper, lunchtime supervisor, etc.), but you are not obligated to do so.  Some guests stay & help while others don’t stay or help at all.  We recognize that there are seasons in life & are happy to have you in whatever capacity works best for your family during this season you are in.  For our members, the commitments are outlined below under “If I became a member, what would I have to do?”

Q: If this is my first time coming to Tapestry, would I be a member or a guest?
A: A guest.

Q: How does a guest become a member?
A: To become a member, we ask that our guests both teach & help one semester before becoming eligible for membership. That way, our guests can get a feel for the group & the group can get a feel for the newcomer to make sure it will be a good fit for all before any further commitment is made. After that, if it seems to be a good fit, then it’s just a matter of seeing if a membership space is open. (Right now our membership openings are limited so you might be put on a waiting list, depending on the age of your kids.)

Q: If I became a member, what would I have to do?

A: Members currently serve 2 hours every semester – one teaching (or some other significant capacity) & one helping. Like guests, members pay a $10 per semester administrative fee.  But most semesters members have this fee reduced by fundraising efforts.  Members also help with light cleanup responsibilities, lunchtime supervision (typically once a semester), & pitch in voluntarily wherever else is needed as they are available. We desire to keep co-op as a helpful tool & not a burdensome master. (We know that homeschooling is a huge responsibility in & of itself!) So we really try hard to keep everybody’s load manageable & as light as possible.

Q: What are the benefits of a Tapestry membership?
A: There are many benefits to membership, such as:

Priority status for…

o    Class enrollment
o    Event registration

Financial savings in the form of…
o    Lower fees
o    No per student, per class guest fees
o    Lower administrative fees when fundraising efforts have made possible
o    Eligibility for discounts
o    Administrative fee discounts when fundraising efforts have made possible
o    Event Discounts

Opportunities to…
o    Impact kids & teens for eternity through teaching & other service opportunities
o    Have input in group decision-making, class planning, & ministry events

An ongoing, supportive relationship with a local group of caring, Christian homeschoolers.
Have a question that’s not answered here?  We’d be happy to help.

Pottstown Area Homeschoolers

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why Homeschool-Life.com?
A: We chose homeschool-life.com because it was an affordable way for our homeschooling group to have a web site. A web site, we felt, was an excellent way to share our group information and stay organized. Most of our families access the internet and had email so it was a logical fit. For the families that did not have the internet or email, they use the Public Library FREE internet access and signed up for a FREE Yahoo email address. Our web site allows us to easily schedule all our group activities. We used to spend countless hours organizing our information, planning field trips, preparing newsletters and mailing and answering questions. Now, with Homeschool-Life.com, scheduling events and keeping our families informed is a breeze.

We would encourage all our families to take advantage of the family web pages. The kids have a great time learning how to design web pages!

Q: Where are you located?
A: We don’t have one location. Meetings have been in the Boyertown/Pottstown/Limerick area, with members coming from the Tri-County area.

Q: Do you meet frequently?
A: We meet frequently throughout the month for park days and/or indoor activities. We have monthly parent support meetings and low cost field trips most months. Any member may plan an activity for the group at any time. An online calendar is available to members and a weekly newsletter is also emailed to members.

Q: What is the average age of children in your group?
A: We have all ages in the different events. There are no age limits.

Q: Does anyone in your group do Cyberschool?
A: We do have a number of families who cyberschool. We do not have a preference to how a family homeschools their children. It is assumed that members will respect each other’s homeschooling choices. The focus is on our commonality of homeschooling not our differences.

Q: Do you have a statement of faith?
A: No.

Q: Are you affiliated with any church?
A: No. This group is not specific to any one religion (or non-religion). All are welcome. Most of our members, at this time, attend a church but it isn’t our topic of conversations and we request that deep religious (or lack thereof) discussions be kept outside of this group. Conversations should be focused on homeschooling and general parenting.

Q: Do you have any dues?
A: Due to the use of this fabulous website, as of June 2008, we will be implementing yearly dues, costing each family $6/year. This will include access to the group calendar, links, classifieds, newsletter, and even your own web space for a family website. We do have a small fund for families who need assistance in paying the annual fee.

Q: Do you teach any classes?
A: We do not teach regular classes throughout the year and we do not plan to in the future.

Q: May I advertise my business?
A: Only members in good standing with PAH may advertise their businesses in our forum.

You may post information about your business in the forum under the category “The Advertising Page.” Please limit your announcement to one post only as much as possible. You may post as much information about your business as you like on your family webpage. Be sure to include a link to it in the forum if you do so!

We ask that you please keep the announcements to businesses of your family only. Again, you may post businesses of friends and extended family members on your family web page.

Q: What Pottstown Homeschoolers is NOT….
… a babysitting service.
… a place to market your new business/service.
… people waiting to be converted to your religion/beliefs.

Q: What Pottstown Area Homeschoolers IS a Group of Families…
… who homeschool, plan to homeschool or are thinking about homeschooling.
… who enjoy giving our children the opportunity to play with one another.
… who like to share information with one another.

Q: What are your RULES?
A: Pottstown Area Homeschoolers Rules (For Children AND Adults):

– We respect all children.
– We respect all adults.
– We respect the property of others.
– We expect parents/caregivers to be responsible for their own child’s behavior.
– Parents will only discipline their own children.

Harrisburg Area Homeschoolers Association Website

The Harrisburg Area Homeschoolers Association (HAHA) is an organization that exists for the purpose of encouraging, supporting, and informing parents who have made the choice to educate their child at home. HAHA is an all-volunteer organization comprised of parents who educate their children at home using various methods including traditional homeschooling, unschooling, and cyber charter schools. HAHA will not withhold membership to any individual regardless of educating style, race, or religious background. HAHA has been in existence since 1987 and continues to be a source of support to over 300 families in a five-county area surrounding Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Twenty years ago, this organization was founded on Christian principles. The leadership team of today pays honor to those exact principles while at the same time, providing an atmosphere of acceptance to those of differing religious convictions.

HAHA membership affords you the opportunity to be involved with our group in various ways. Some choose to participate in socialization activities and some do not have the time or a family structure that makes that possible. A HAHA membership is still beneficial even if you decide not to participate in social activities. There are over 17+ benefits to a HAHA membership. Visit the link entitled “Benefits of Membership” to review those benefits. We have attempted to ensure that there are activities for students of all ages. Some of our members are involved in almost every program that is available. Others choose to just take advantage of the e-mail loop or discount card. It really is up to you. We do ask that you consider attempting to make at least one parental support meeting a year. It is worth the sacrifice of making the time to come. We think you’ll be glad that you did!

Please know that at the heart of all we do is a desire to bring encouragement and support to you and your children. Every activity, parent’s meeting, service project, and workshop has been carefully planned with the hopes of equipping you with all you need to not only survive–but to thrive on your homeschooling journey!

GHS combines dedicated tutors and committed parents to the training of their students with the ultimate goal of fashioning competent young men and women who love God and serve Him in any station of life with their gifts, wisdom, and knowledge.  GHS was founded upon the premise that parents are a child’s first teachers.  Parents are the primary guides of the process that allows additional tutors to enter and influence their children’s worlds.  Parents who join in the partnership of education at GHS understand this and dedicate personal time and energy to their child’s education.

We look forward to the future of GHS!

GHS is a non-profit corporation that currently operates under the name Exodus Home School.  Our corporate mission statement is:

The purpose of Exodus Home School is to provide faith-based education primarily to elementary and/or secondary home schooled students and/or adults.  Exodus Home School is dedicated to enriching the home school education experience in a supportive, faith-based environment.  Areas of study may include English, Mathematics, Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Social Studies, and other areas of interest.  Exodus Home School’s purpose includes raising funds for providing educational and support services, as well as any and all other purposes as are allowed and consistent with the Pennsylvania Non-Profit Corporation Act.

Fireside Academy Community Co-op for Homeschoolers

About Fireside

Our co-op classes are held on Tuesdays, September through May.

Beginning 2013-2014, our classes will begin meeting at Christ UCC Church, Bethlehem PA

Our Story:

Fireside Academy was an idea that began over coffee among some long-time homeschooling friends, who sought to create a place where homeschooled children could come together for high quality academic instruction, while creating in a warm and supportive community.   Angela Landis, Director, and Laurel Wenson, Assistant Director, took a leap of faith that others would share that vision and signed a lease with the UUCLV church in Bethlehem and took on the daunting task of administration required for this endeavor.   We formed a board of core teachers, and began seeking others.

With a LOT of hard work and help from talented and committed teachers and families, Fireside Academy opened in 2008 with 35 families and 82 students.   Each week, we all relished in the joy of these children and their amazing desire to learn.  Their enthusiasm to come each week and the bonds of friendship they created continued to touch our hearts.

The children and families helped spread the word about our group throughout the local homeschooling community.  We were surprised at the number of inquiries, and stunned to have over a dozen full classes before we even had our Open House. Over the summer, we doubled in size for the 2009/10 term to 57 families, and 109 students.

We quickly realized that our program was growing in appeal, but our current facility was unable to meet those growth needs.    Consequently, we relocated the co-op to Carpenter’s Community Church in Nazareth, a lovely facility that offered the room we needed (as well as a parking lot).     Our list of teachers grew, our class schedule expanded, and our co-op “family” has continued to grow each year!!

After three wonderful years in partnership with Carpenters, we are again moving to a larger facility that will continue to allow new families to join us!  Beginning in September of 2013, our new home will be the Christ United Church of Christ in Bethlehem, not far from where we started!.   This facility promises enough space to allow us to grow without having to relocate!  We are excited about the upcoming academic year and hope to welcome some of you to join us!

Mission Statement

It is the purpose and mission of Fireside Academy Community Co-op to provide homeschooling families and families of cyber-educated students opportunities to participate in cooperative, enriching, group learning experiences. It is the aim of Fireside Academy to keep the natural love of learning alive by offering engaging learning experiences in the sciences, mathematics, language arts, foreign languages, fine arts, history, social studies and physical education and other special interest subjects. We believe that it is important to create a learning environment that acknowledges differences in learning styles, nurtures a student’s self esteem and embraces students from all denominations, races, and sectors of life.

Philosophy

Fireside Academy operates under the premise that learning is a gift with its own intrinsic rewards. We believe that learning flourishes when students are given opportunities to become involved in the process of their own education. We believe that it is important for students to interact with enthusiastic, knowledgeable, respectful facilitators in a friendly, non-threatening social environment. Learning fostered through a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect allows students the freedom to explore and expand their boundaries without the fear of making mistakes.

Non-Discriminatory Policy

The Fireside Academy Community Co-op is truly an ecumenical group.   It welcomes students of any sex, race, color, national, ethnic origin and religious affiliation to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities made available to students in the program. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of policies, or any program-administered events, activities or classes.

ABOUT YHSA

Many families in York County have accepted the responsibility of educating their children at home. Some of these have strong support from family and friends. Others do not.

York Home School Association, Inc. (YHSA) was founded on the belief that the ultimate responsibility for the education of children belongs to the parents (Deuteronomy 4:9, 6:1-25, and 4:1-4). Parents can more successfully carry out this responsibility with the support of like-minded home educators. Frequently, parents are called on to defend their decision to home educate their children and affiliation with a support group can strengthen the drive, desire, and beliefs that brought parents to the decision in the first place.

On average, YHSA has more than 400 member families and is a member organization of the Christian Homeschool Association of Pennsylvania (CHAP) and an affiliate of HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association).

History

During the early 1990’s, the York Home School Association (YHSA) became a more structured organization, growing out of a group of several dozen families who met once a month for educational and social activities.

The newsletter, The Scholar, was first published in the fall of 1991. YHSA’s first charter and by-laws were adopted during the winter of 1992. In May of 1992 the board of directors was established. The group incorporated in 1998.

Many annual events that were started in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s still take place today. The organization’s busy calendar is always expanding to accommodate new academic and social activities.

The Mission

YHSA is a Christian support group and it strives through all efforts to bring glory to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as prescribed in the Nicene Creed.

Through the involvement and effort of all of its member families, YHSA can provide encouragement and resources for families, assist new home schoolers, and provide academic and social interaction with other parents and children with similar concerns and educational goals.

On occasion some classes have nominal fees for additional supplies. The fee is not due until your membership is confirmed.

Statement of Faith

All families attending Conestoga Valley Homeschoolers must agree to honor this Statement of Faith in all areas of participation, including but not limited to teaching, helping, and attending classes and events that the co-op might have.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe in the one God eternally existing in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  We believe that they are equal in perfection, nature and ability.
Mathew 5:48, 28:19-20; John 1:1-2; Colossians 2:9

We believe in Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man.  He was begotten of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin.  He was perfect, without sin and died on the cross as a sacrificial substitute for all mankind.  He rose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of God where He intercedes for His people.
Luke1:34-38; Acts 2:23-24; Philippians 2:6-11; Colossians 1:15-17; I Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 2:9, 4:15, 8:1, 9:24; I Peter 1:3, 2:24, 3:18; I John 2:2

We believe in the Holy Spirit as a divine person sent to guide, instruct, dwell, and empower the believer and convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and judgment.
John 14:15-18.26; John 16:7-15; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 6:19

We believe in the authority of the Bible, that it is the inspired and infallible Word of God. We believe that both the Old Testament and New Testament are given by God and are the complete revelation of His will and salvation to men. We believe that the Bible is the final authority in faith and life.
John 17:17; II Timothy 3:15-17; II Peter 1:19-21

We believe that God created mankind in His image, both male and female. We believe that the first man, Adam, sinned when he disobeyed God and incurred both physical and spiritual judgment and death.  Therefore, all men (except Jesus Christ) are born with a sinful nature, accountable for their sins and separated from God.  Only the saving work of Jesus Christ can reconcile us to God.
Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:10-12, 23; 5:12; 6:23; I Corinthians 15:20-23; Ephesians 2:1-10

We believe in the salvation of Jesus Christ, that the shedding of His blood on the cross brings about our right standing with God. It is only through the cross that we are saved; there is nothing that we can do to earn salvation.  When we accept this gift, we then become a child of God.
John 3:16, 6:37, 10:27-30; Romans 5:8, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; I Timothy 2:3-6; Titus 3:4-7; I Peter 1:18-23

We believe in the universal church. All who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior are part of the church, where Christ is the head and the church is the body.
Romans 12:5; I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:20-23;

We believe that Christ Jesus will return a second time.
I Thessalonians 4:16; Hebrews 10:37; Revelation 20:1-15

We believe in the sanctity of marriage, that marriage is between one man and one woman.
Genesis 2:20-24; Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:31

CHEX

Who We Are

We are a group of homeschool families joining to fellowship, encourage each other in our life’s journeys, and provide excellent group learning opportunities for our children.

Where and When We Meet

The whole group gathers at Westminster Presbyterian Church** on Monday mornings from 8:45-12:00, eight weeks in September-November and eight weeks in February-March. After a brief group devotional & announcements, we have three 55-minute class periods.

High school students (SecondLevel) meet an additional eight weeks, for a total of 24 weeks. This extended schedule more readily meets high school requirements.

** We use Westminster’s facility but are not affiliated with the church.

What We Offer

There are academic co-ops and supplemental co-ops. Our niche is to provide the best of both worlds: supplemental in the primary grades and academic in the high school years. This enables families who want both to stay together in the co-op setting.

In the primary grades, we provide gym class plus 2 others. The other classes range broadly in content depending on what the moms have an interest in teaching: art, history, music, literature, science, etc.

In the BridgeLevel (grades 7-8), and SecondLevel (grades 9-12), classes offered are primarily academic, with some electives to round out the program.

Group activities include a summer picnic, field trips, Learning Showcase, Track & Field Day, standardized testing in the spring, and mom’s nights.

Why We Meet

Our desire is to serve each other and use each person’s unique skills to strengthen and bless the group, while providing an excellent learning atmosphere for our children.

Moms with children in preschool through BridgeLevel fill multiple roles: teaching, assisting teachers, and/or volunteering to set up the facility on Monday mornings, coordinate field trips, organize a fundraiser, or plan the end-of-year luncheon. At this time, moms with ONLYSecondLevel students are not required to contribute their skills in the running of the co-op; however, their participation in Prayer & Share and/or volunteer positions is welcome.

A cornerstone of our co-op is mom’s Prayer & Share, when we take an hour to focus on the Lord together and lift each other up in prayer. On Monday mornings, each mom teaches or assists for 2 hours and has Prayer & Share for an hour.

Cost

Support Group Membership: $15 Family fee+ $20 CHALC membership fee = $35

This is for those families who would like to participate in their choice of field trips, testing, Learning Fair, Track & Field, etc. but do not wish to attend Monday morning classes.

Second Level Membership: $15 Registration fee+ $20 CHALC membership fee = $35

This is for those parents who want their 9th-12th grade students to take our classes but are not interested in participating as teachers, helpers or in Prayer & Share. Students can be dropped off for classes with no parent participation required.

Full Membership: $25 Family fee + $20 CHALC membership fee = $45

*CHALC membership includes liability insurance, a subscription to the Scrawls, a monthly homeschooling newsletter, seminars, graduation, etc.

For Full Membership class cost per student depends on age:

Nursery is free, PK1-Kindergarten is $15/student, and 1st grade – 6th grade is $21/student.

This covers all 6 classes the student takes during the two sessions.

BridgeLevel & SecondLevel students pay per class, according to the teacher’s fee.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe the Old and New Testaments to be the inspired word of God and to be profitable for teaching, correcting, reproof, and for training in righteousness. (II Timothy 3: 16-17)

We believe the Old and New Testaments to be infallible and to be used as a guide for life. (II Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 19:7-11)

We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (John 1:1, 14; 4:24)

We believe that God is the creator of all things. (Gen. 1-2)

We believe that Jesus Christ our Lord was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and was crucified. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His triumphant return to judge the world. (Matt. 1:20; Is. 7:14; Matt. 7-8; John 20:17; Acts 1:9, 11; Acts 10:42)

We believe there is only one way of salvation: to believe and have faith in Jesus Christ and to trust in His finished work on the cross to redeem and forgive us of our sin. (John 3:16; Eph. 2:8-9; 1:7-8)

We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to regenerate the sinner, indwell, instruct, guide, convict, and empower believers to bear fruit in their lives. (I Cor. 2:10-14; Gal. 4:6; John 14:26; John 16:7-14; II John 5:20)

AGAPE CHRISTIAN HOMESCHOOL ORGANIZATION

Thinking about “co-oping”? There are many benefits in joining a home school co-op.  You’ll receive encouragement, support, information, and lots of friends working toward a common goal.  It is also an opportunity to bless and serve others.  As a teacher you can share your passions, gifts, and interests.  As a student one of the greatest benefits is group learning in which meeting once a week or every other week gives children a “taste” of group learning without being overwhelmed. Take a look around –If you like what you see fill out an application. If you have more questions contact us.  We would love the opportunity to get to know your family.

ABOUT AGAPE

The AGAPE Christian Homeschool Organization is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization that serves home school families in Central Pennsylvania. We are a body of  home schoolers from various Christian traditions, believing in one triune God the Father, His Son and Our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.  We are comfortable praying together, discussing God, and sharing Bible stories and verses. As parents, we prayerfully and gladly accept the responsibility of educating our children. Our instruction reflects a Christian worldview solidly rooted in the Holy Bible.

Where and When We Meet

Our organization meets every other week at a local church in Dillsburg (for safety purposes please contact us for more information). We provide classes for  nursery-grade 12. The school year is broken into 2 semesters with 7 classes in the fall semester and 8 classes in the spring semester. We also offer weekly classes for jr/sr. high school students as well as credit options for senior high school students.

Class options

We have a wide variety of enrichment and academic classes to choose from for each grade level each semester.  Our current catalog is not available to non-members. Our class structure is set up by combining grade levels together, K-2, grade 3-5, grade 6-8, and 9-12 with some variations depending on the specific class options and teachers. Examples of past classes include: K-2  “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, “Cook-A-Book”, “Speed-Stacking”  3-5  “PA History”, “All about Money”, “4-square writing” 6-8 “Amish Unit Study”, “Latin I”, “Power Point/Graphic Design”, “Hands On Health”, 9-12 “Algebra II”,  “Chemistry/lab”, “British Literature”,”Duct Tape Art”, “Worship Band”.  High school classes are on a rotation basis meaning that not every credit class is offered every year.  For example:  Chemistry and Physical Science would be offered one year and then Earth Science, Biology, and Physics the next year.

Membership

Membership is open to all Christian home schooling families who are in agreement with the Primary Documents found in Article 1 of the Bylaws.  AGAPE is a parental, cooperative group.  Membership demonstrates a willing heart to serve the group.  For the purposes of the co-op, family is defined as a male and female parent, married with one or more children (Genesis 1:26-28), or single parent, or adopted, foster or step children (James 1:27).  Member families must currently be home schooling, and have had home schooling experience for at least one school year.  Home schooling is defined as any schooling that occurs in the home (pre-school to high school) including- but not limited to- home schooling under the PA law or under a Charter school.”

Membership Fees

Our group currently has approximately 55+ families.   Dues are $56 per family per semester, and additional $20 per semester if one or more children are taking weekly classes. Tuition remission is given to a parent willing to teach a weekly class.  Extra costs above and beyond membership fees may include lab fees, textbooks, reading books, art supplies, etc.

Applying

We welcome families to apply any time of the year.  If you are interested in applying for membership, here are the steps to proceed:

1.Click on “Bylaws”.  Read the Bylaws, Statements of Purpose, Faith and Community. If you agree with our statement of purpose(sect 1.02), faith(sect 1.03), and community(sect.1.04) you may proceed.

2.Click on “membership registration”.  Fill in all necessary fields.

3.You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Your application will need board approval which could take up to a week or more.  After that process is complete the vice president will contact you concerning the status of your application and whether or not we are taking new members.  If the membership is full, your name will be placed on a waiting list.  If we are accepting new members she will explain  how to proceed.

Teacher responsibility

At least one family member is required to  sign up to teach at least one class and help in another.  A third free period is spent in the “parents room”, enjoying food and fellowship.  We give the opportunity to high school students to teach enrichment classes(under parent supervision) that are at least 2 grades below their own grade level, allowing them to develop teaching and leadership skills.
