CM Homeschools

CMHomeschools is a local support group of Charlotte Mason Homeschoolers which meets monthly, in either Niceville or Crestview FL, on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Our meetings include a study time in which a topic, related to Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education, is taught and discussed in the group. We are currently studying Volume 3 from CM’s Original Series. Since our meetings are based upon a teaching format, we ask that moms bring only nursing infants to our meetings, so that other mothers may be able to focus on the topics under discussion. A Room for Learning

We are a group of homeschool parents, alternative educators, and community members who have come together to build a cooperative, homeschool resource center and alternative learning environment for the children in our community. We are open to all families and educators who are interested in homeschooling, unschooling, and alternative education. We are creating a center where children and their parents can check out resources, take classes, participate in activities, collaborate with one another and build community.

We support eachother as parent educators and help one another develop individual homeschool practices. As parent educators, we pool our resources in order to help each of us individually actualize our visions for our children’s education. We not only share curriculum ideas, but support each other through a reflective, collaborative and constructive process that helps us each to build unique, dynamic and engaging learning experiences to meet the needs of our individual children.

Our aim is to support Gainesville’s homeschool families, teachers and community members in their efforts to provide responsive, individualized, child-centered, authentic learning experiences for the children in our community. By combining our collective resources, we will support existing alternative education families and groups, by providing access to otherwise expensive materials, creative workshops, and imaginative and academic classes for children and parents.

If you are looking for a safe and supportive environment to grow and learn, and/or if you would like to share your wisdom and experience with others, then this is the place for you.

Also, if you would like to help create a creative, engaging and supportive homeschool resource center in Gainesville, we need your help. Please join us.

The Working Parents Homeschool Support Group

The Working Parents Homeschool Support Group is the first support group in South Florida designed to meet the needs of the working homeschool family.  Although our membership is open to any homeschool family, our goals and objectives will be geared more towards the concerns of families that have working parents.

Families that work while homeschooling have a different set of concerns than traditional homeschool families.  For instance, ways to keep your child academically occupied while still at work are paramount.  Other topics such as carpooling possibilities, ways to get tutoring, and extra curricular activities are also addressed.

Leadership in this group consists of working moms that have successfully navigated through the homeschool process from preschool through dual enrollment in college.

Another unique feature of this group is a full time guidance counselor, Sarah Ball, who has almost a decade of experience guiding homeschool families.  Sarah will be available at each meeting to answer questions ranging from dual enrollment to how to prepare high school transcripts.

Homeschooling in South Florida has changed considerably in the last ten years. The Working Parents Homeschool Support Group was designed to meet these changing needs.

(fall and spring). Members and Non-members are welcome and encouraged to attend our Support Group Meetings each month.

Co-op is open only to Members of WCHE. Each family must have completed the membership application process, and paid the current year’s annual dues for prior to registering their student(s) for classes.Completing the WCHE membership process and joining the group means that your children will be eligible for participation in the co-op classes, but it does not guarantee a place in the co-op. We offer extended 12 week semesters for Middle School students looking to improve their study habits before transitioning into high school level classes. Transition classes have required homework of about 1 1/2-2 hours per week per class.College Preparation Classes – We offer 15 & 30 week classes for High School students for 1/2 credit(s) and/or 1 credit(s) for their official transcripts. These classes are designed to be the core curriculum for that subject and require about 5 hours of homework per class per week, and are taught by certified teachers or moms within our group who have degrees and/or work experience in that field. As always, we offer 8 week Enrichment classes for Middle School and High School students as well.WCHE members are encouraged to register early, as the co-op classes fill up quickly.Thank You – From the Co-op Team!

Unfailing Homeschoolers

Welcome to Unfailing Homeschoolers!

Whether you are new to homeschooling or you are seeking a little extra support in your homeschool journey, we are so glad you are showing interest in Unfailing Homeschoolers. We realize that making the decision to homeschool your child is not something that is done without much thought, research and in many cases, much prayer. We also believe that once that decision is made, families must be supported throughout their homeschool years. Unfailing Homeschoolers is here to do just that!

Our families have joined together to encourage and support one another as we educate our children at home. It is our hope that you will be inspired and blessed by this group of wonderful homeschool families. If you believe Unfailing Homeschoolers is the group for your family we welcome you to join us!

Membership in Unfailing Homeschoolers is based on the following:

  • Agreement with our Mission Statement, Statement of Faith and Standards of Behavior (see below).
  • One or more children of Kindergarten age or greater, to be homeschooled during the current school year.
  • Payment of Membership Dues. A fee of $26.50 per family/per year will need to be collected in order to process your membership request.  These fees go toward various U.H. expenditures throughout the year such as the website, printing, end of the year awards, and facility rentals. Fees for field trips and other events are not included in these dues.
  • Parental participation and contribution is necessary in order for our group to accomplish its mission.  Therefore, parental involvement will be required.  Requesting membership indicates an agreement to  serve at or contribute to at least one event or activity during the school year.

Mission Statement

Unfailing Homeschoolers’ mission is to purposefully support and encourage one another as we personally educate and disciple our children at home so that they may know and follow Christ.   This will be accomplished through group activities that are educational, character building and fun.

Statement of Faith

The leadership of Unfailing Homeschoolers is committed to this Statement of Faith. We believe:

  • There is only one triune God, existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)
  • Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13, Revelation 19)
  • The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates, indwells, and empowers the believer to live a life of personal holiness and walk in the obedient will of God. (Acts 5:3-4, I Corinthians 6:11, John 16:8-11, Titus 3:3-5, 1 Corinthians 6:19, Philippians 2:13)
  • All people, by nature, are sinful and lost. Sin causes us to be separated from God and lost eternally, apart from Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:23, 6:23, Isaiah 59:1-2)
  • Salvation is by grace, through faith alone and is offered by God as a free gift to all who repent and believe. Those whom receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord will have eternal life with Him. (Ephesians 2:8-9, John 3:16, Mark 1:15)
  • All who are saved (born again, redeemed) will be raised to everlasting life and blessedness in Heaven, and the unsaved will be raised to everlasting punishment in hell and eternal separation from God. (John 3:4, 3:16, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9)
  • All of the above statements are based on the Bible, which is the only infallible Word of God and was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Standards of Behavior

As a Christian homeschool group, we believe we are held to a higher standard. These standards should be evident to everyone we come in contact with. In accordance with this belief we have adopted Standards of Behavior for our group as follows:

  • Respect of others displayed by proper language, proper conduct and modest dress. We follow all rules of facilities we visit including; homes, parks and field trip/event facilities.
  • Consideration of others by providing appropriate parental responses when required. This includes RSVPs & payment for events by specified dates.
  • Each child’s behavior is the sole responsibility of their parent.
  • Children are to be accompanied to events by their parent or guardian. If this is not possible, arrangements for another adult to accompany your child must be made prior to the event (in doing so, the parent releases the U.H. chaperones from responsibility for the child’s behavior or harm that may come to the child in the parent’s absence.)
  • Children with contagious illnesses, rashes and/or fever within 24 hrs. of an event, should not attend a group event.
  • Above all, we follow the “Golden Rule”. Luke 6:31 says, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

We are open to all homeschool families. Our co-op offers educationally rewarding classes for children ages 4 and up. Since we welcome all homeschooling families, our classes do not include religious instruction, shared prayer, or faith-based content. We are an allergy sensitive group. Some of our members have life threatening peanut/tree nut allergies.

Member Benefits include:

THINK Day Classes – Available for THINK members with children ages 4 and up. We offer a Fall Semester and Spring Semester during the traditional school year. You can join us for one class, a few classes, or a whole day of classes. Please note that although 4 year olds may enroll in classes with a 4+ designation, THINK is for homeschooling families and those planning to homeschool. We are NOT a preschool program. Should a class for this age group become full, priority will always be given to families who have an older sibling attending THINK Day classes. Field Trips and Community Service Projects – Outings are a great opportunity for our children and families to get to know each other outside of THINK Day. THINK has an active fieldtrip schedule with numerous fun and educational trips currently planned. Typically, we have two or more fieldtrips a month and a monthly community service project. We encourage our members to get involved with planning fields trips throughout the year.

SPLASH Homeschool Support Group

SPLASH Homeschool Support Group is currently open for registration. SPLASH will meet for eight weeks in the fall on Mondays. Times will vary depending on your child’s class (between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm).  Classes planned are currently for age 5 through 12.  Odyssey of the Mind is for Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Class registration is open from Monday, 7/22/13 through Friday, 8/16/13

The new member fee is $30.00 for SPLaSH membership and $20 for FPEA membership.

SPLASH is in the process of organizing Field Trips.

In January 2009, Jenna Cobb and Karen McPherson approached the staff of First Baptist Church of Melbourne with a request to begin a homeschool ministry. Their vision was to become a thriving family ministry providing opportunities for children, encouragement for moms, fun activities with dads, and practical ways in which families could reach outside their homes with the love of Jesus.  Not only did the staff approve, but they were very excited about the potential the group would have.

A lot has happened since that initial meeting!
First Baptist Church of Melbourne opened their doors to our activities and generously gave us permission to use whatever we needed in our activities. Jenny Goodson, Minister to Preschoolers and Children, and ex officio member of our team of directors, was invaluable in her enthusiasm and ability to help us organize and get our group functioning quickly.
By March 2009, we had 5 directors on board to organize and lead the group. Our bylaws require the directors to be members of First Baptist Church of Melbourne, active in their Sunday Schools, and have the blessing of their families to take the position.
Eleven families quickly signed up to join in the new adventure. Though small, we went on several field trips, performed service activities, hosted a mom’s night out, a family potluck dinner, and a Used Book Sale.
Then came the fall session (2009) and our membership really exploded!   By the end of the 2009-2010 school year we had 52 families participating in SPLASH.  In our second year, SPLASH had 82 families with nearly 200 children.
If you are you looking for a homeschooling group as a source of social, educational and service activities, as well as encouragement and support, we hope you will consider SPLASH.

SHINE Homeschool Group

We are a Christian-led homeschool support group and co-op located in Tampa, Florida, that is open to all homeschooling families. Our mission is to provide information, educational support, social opportunities, and community to those who are teaching their children at home. Our desire is to create a “home” for our families…a place for them to have fun, learn, play and ultimately grow together through the year. SHINE offers a variety of activities like our co-op program, field trips, park days, support group meetings, SHINE Showcase with Kindergarten graduation, service projects, family activities and much more. Of course, all of this happens because of our awesome members volunteering as this is the only way we can keep all of our activities running smoothly. As a member, you will have ample opportunity to get involved in as many activities as you would like.

We offer a unique co-op for our members, too! Families have an opportunity to meet and chat with each other co-op morning before classes begin. Fun theme days like Crazy Camo Day and Cowboy/girl Day…throw some spice into our Mondays! Events such as our Beach Day, Family Game Day, and SHINE camping are all planned for either evening or weekend times so that dads and even grandparents can attend! Here is a sampling of our fall co-op class offerings: Biology, Chemistry, Map Quest, First Responders, Bible Busters, LEGO Story Starters, Doing Art Through History, and Public Speaking. Fall class registration is open August 2nd-5th and is available to all members registered and paid as of July 15th. If you are the parent of a child grade 6 and up, check out our special RAY Youth Group activities especially for them! We have a heart for this age group and desire to give them an opportunity to spend quality time developing friendships with others. And last but certainly not least, we have monthly parent support group meetings. Take time once a month to spend time with other moms to fellowship and encourage one another. Even though we are Christian-led, our members are not required to sign a statement of faith. We want to offer a unique environment where all families are welcome. Classes offered at co-op are member driven. Some may be faith-based while others are not. Each semester reflects what our members are looking for at that time.

Pinellas Parent Educators Association

About Us:

Providence Home Educators began in 2005 with 16 families and has grown each year.  We offer two membership options:

1.  PHE Support group

2. PHE Co-operative classes

When becoming a member, every family joins the PHE Support Group.  From there, each family can decide if they would like to participate in the weekly PHE Co-operative classes for an additional fee and a volunteer requirement.  Membership for the co-op classes is granted only after completing a successful interview process by the PHE Board.

Overview of Support Group:

There is a low, annual fee per family that includes membership to the Florida Parent Educators Association and a small donation to the Home Education Foundation—Brenda Dickinson does an awesome job of protecting our homeschooling rights and laws, so we like to support her!!!  Additional benefits of being in the support group include access to our many activities such as: fun field trips, Mom’s Night Out, the get acquainted picnic, professional school pictures, Family Movie Night, the annual Christmas show, Fine Arts Night, a Gingerbread House competition (for highschoolers), the Yearbook, and the end of year promotion and yearbook signing party. We like to have fun!

Overview of Co-operative Classes:

We are an all volunteer, parent-driven, accountability cooperative of like-minded Evangelical Christian families who bring our talents and giftings together to help facilitate the education of each other’s children.  We meet at Metro Life Church, in Casselberry. Classes are on Mondays from 9 am to 3:45 pm—nursery to 12th grade.  Our school year is from the middle of August to the first week of May each year. PHE offers the four core subjects–math, history, science, and English.  In addition, for highschoolers, we offer Yearbook class for a practical arts credit, plus then we have a wonderful compilation of the great memories throughout the year!  Each class period is 90 minutes, except yearbook. The school year is composed of 33 weeks, consisting of 31 weeks of assigned homework. There is NOhomework the week of testing and the last day of school.

While we are a co-op, we function more like a private school. Each family or family representative (we have some Dads/Grandparents) is required to teach one class and help/assist in another.  The teacher/facilitator plans the class and then teaches a week’s worth of concepts each Monday.  They then assign the homework for the week that the parents will oversee, grade, and help with during the week.  When the students arrive the following Monday, all the assigned work is completed, checked for accuracy by the parent, inserted into their homework folder, and turned back in for accountability with the teacher/facilitator.

After fulfilling the teacher and helper  positions, the remaining two class periods are used to, first, check homework folders, make copies, do lesson plans, and then, whatever else you would like to do, such as run errands, read a book, go shopping, hang with the other ladies/men in the FUN ZONE (teacher’s area)—we are flexible!  The great benefit in co-oping together is to lighten the load for ALL of us.  The nice thing is that we only have to prepare and teach one class versus all the classes, in all the grades of our own children.  It sure makes the journey easier!

There is a minimal monthly fee for rent, photocopies, supplies, teacher stipends, etc.  It is based on our costs and how many families join each year.  In addition to all the benefits of the support group, the co-operative classes enjoy a variety of “spirit” dress-up days throughout the year—which are all recorded in the yearbook!

Parents Educating on the Treasure Coast

History of the Parents ETC Homeschool Support Group and PETC’s Leaders In 2001, a simple group of homeschooling moms saw a need for an area wide homeschool support group that would support homeschooling families from all walks of life. From their vision, Parents Educating on the Treasure Coast (Parents ETC) was born. From those few families in 2001, Parents ETC has grown, and we have over 100 homeschooling families from the St. Lucie and Martin Counties.

Parents ETC was established with Christian values, and its Board of Directors must sign a Statement of Faith that affirms basic Christian beliefs. However, PETC is open to any homeschooling family, regardless of religious or denominational affiliation. Members will not be pressured to change their religious beliefs in any way. Because the organization has Christian roots, aspects of the Christian faith may be expressed in its activities and communication from time to time. Below is the history of the Parents ETC leadership. As children grew and families moved, the leadership changed hands, but the vision of Parents ETC continued. Join us in recognizing the commitment and sacrifice these women willingly gave in order to make Parents ETC the wonderful homeschooling support group it is today.

PACT

Parents Educating Children (PEC) is a group of parents and friends who started meeting in 1982. We began with just 3 families; our membership is now over 390 families. PEC has become more organized over the years, but our goal remains the same—to encourage each other as we home educate our children. The organization of the group has been kept simple. An administrative board is appointed and shares organizational duties with the support group leaders. Many members are involved in the various activities; we hope you’ll volunteer some of your time to PEC.

  • The largest all-volunteer homeschool support group in Palm Beach County.
  • The goal of PEC is to support, inform, and encourage parents in their efforts to educate their children at home. It takes no role in teaching the student.
  • PEC provides socialization opportunities for children and activities such as Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Kravis Center performances, skating, and bowling.
  • Five area support groups throughout the county hold family park days for parents and children to interact and network.
  • Evening parent meetings present speakers and topics that provide for continuing education and support for all members.

PEC Mission Statement

Parents Educating Children’s mission is to support and encourage its member parents who are engaged in a home education program, as well as those considering homeschooling as an academic option. Our philosophy is founded on traditional, Biblical, Judeo-Christian values. Membership is open to all who are engaged in a home education program or considering home education, and pay annual dues.

PEC believes that parents have a God-given responsibility to teach their children (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). PEC believes the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God. PEC will always seek to glorify and honor our Lord in everything we do and say, praying openly to our Heavenly Father in the name of His Son, Jesus, before or during meetings, speaking of Jesus Christ publicly, discussing Christian ideals and insuring that our children have the freedom to express their Christian faith during activities. Meetings, activities, and classes offered to all members will be consistent with these beliefs. Therefore, PEC will maintain a Christian leadership. Board Members and Support Group Leaders will be required to sign this Mission Statement to ensure Christian leadership of PEC.

Membership dues are $25.00.

Included in membership:

1)  Access to PEC’s secure member website.  This website is full of information that will enhance your homeschool experience.  You will also receive updates and have access to other members through the forum.

2)  PEC sponsored activities and field trips.  PEC sponsors a Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, high school graduation ceremony, monthly bowling and skating, and a teen spring dance.

3)  Parent meetings and special events.

4)  Support groups throughout Palm Beach County.

PACT of Miami

Do you homeschool and have a child age 9 and up and live in Palm Beach County, Florida? Do you have Judeo-Christian Values?  Are you finding they have outgrown many of the typical activities like park day or arts and crafts? Are you struggling to find age-appropriate activities and like-minded children for friendships? We understand! Please join us for PACT, Pre Adolescents Connecting Together, a homeschool support group designed to build friendships, encourage volunteerism, and develop socialization geared for children age 9 and up.

Our Motto is – “Many Hands Make Light Work”

Our plan is to work with other parents to coordinate activities, field trips, and provide support. We plan to meet on a regular basis to facilitate relationships and build a comfort level that fosters deep friendships through age appropriate field trips, like climbing a 40ft tower at Discovery Quest, social conscience activities like making bio-degradable bird feeders and placing them in public spaces, fun get-togethers like bowling, pool parties, a Wii or movie night, Moms Night Out, and educational concepts to name just a few. We hope to create bonds that will take our children through PACT and on through high school providing them a complete, memorable, social experience. This is not a traditional support group, but instead, a group of parents committed to providing excellent social and educational opportunities to their children. The moderators of the group consider themselves facilitators. They will assist in organizing, planning and communicating information to the group. However, everyone is expected to participate in planning. In this way, we share the responsibilities and the rewards. This is OUR group and in order to be successful, all of us need to take an active role to ensure its success. Let’s make a PACT to provide our children with a fun, exciting and meaningful adolescence!

Our Mission Statement:

  • To have children develop long lasting, meaningful friendships with other children of a similar JUDEO- CHRISTIAN moral upbringing as they transition from childhood to the teenage years.
  • To encourage a sense of volunteerism in our youth by providing opportunities and education and getting involved with hands on activities within our community.
  • To develop social skills and etiquette as well as promote self-esteem and opportunities for personal growth.

Northwest Tampa Classical Conversations

It is a Mission:
The purpose of education is to know God and to make Him known. Our purpose is to lead the home-centered education movement by equipping parents and students with the classical tools of learning needed to discover the order and beauty of God’s creation and to inspire others to do the same.
It is a Model:
CC combines a classical learning and a biblical worldview by modelingthe three stages of classical learning—grammar, dialectic, and rhetoric. Using age appropriate methods, children are taught the tools for studying any subject.
It is a Method:
One of the greatest benefits of joining our CC Communities is they provide a place for your students to enjoy other students. Kids love the chance to interact, play, and have some FUN as they are—incidentally—building a scale model of the solar system. Or making beautiful music on the tin whistle. Or learning Socratic logic. And let’s face it: Homeschooling is hard work. Parents need a place to plug in and support one another, too!

We are a Christian Homeschool Support group serving families in and around Sarasotaand Bradenton, Florida.  Our desire is to provide educational opportunities for both the homeschool parent and for our children in addition to being a community of support and encouragement.   We do this in a number of ways:

·   Parent Enrichment Meetings -from September to May, we provide Parent Meetings for members of LAF and friends of homeschooling.  The meeting covers a theme important to the home educator.  There are announcements of upcoming events, an inspirational speaker, and the opportunity to enjoy social and educational support.

·   Co-Op – K-12th grade co-op is available to LAF members, including nursery and pre-k for younger siblings.  The elementary/middle school co-op meets once a week.  The high school co-op meets twice a week, offering a variety of classes for high school credit.  There is an additional fee for involvement in the co-op.  Fortunately, the fees are minimal thanks to a sponsoring family with a heart to help teach students a Christian Worldview.

·  Mom’s Group – Twice a month moms are welcome to join our “Moms Only” outing.

·  Small Groups – This is the core of our organization where families meet new friends, participate in field trips, and do some co-operative learning.  There are several available, including Middle and High School groups.

·   Workshops and Special Events – LAF sponsors several special events during the year which are run by our parent volunteers.   These include, the Spelling Bee, History Fair, Science Celebration, Field Day, and Curriculum Fair to name a few.   We also host a few workshops each year, requested by our members. These often require registration and fees.

·   Staying Connected – To keep you informed an interactive member website.  Our website is complete with a calendar of events, membership directory, forum for online discussions and announcements, and a wide variety of information and resources at your fingertips.  We also publish an on-line e-newsletter every other month with interviews, tips, student spotlights, recipes, and much more!

Though most of our activities are for our membership, our Parent meetings are open to all homeschool parents in our community.

Finally, we love to celebrate through the year with a Christmas Party, Kindergarten Graduation, and Senior Recognition Night.  We publish an annual yearbook complete with a signing party.

This is an inclusive group.  We welcome all families regardless of their religious or political views, educational or parenting philosophies and personal lifestyle choices.  We encourage members to focus on similarities and respect differences.  We aspire to promote an atmosphere of kindness and tolerance and we believe that our group is enriched by the diversity of our membership.

Members are welcome to belong to as many homeschool organizations as they choose.

This organization is a voluntary association of individuals and families and is a member of the Florida Parent Educators Association (FPEA).

Look around a little and enjoy your visit.  We hope you choose to join us and share our homeschooling journey!

Gulf Coast Christian Home Educators Association

GCCHEA, a Christian homeschool group, is one of the largest homeschool groups in the area. We usually have 150+ member families, from a large area which includes: Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton Counties, as well as military families living on the local military bases of Eglin, Hulbert, and Duke Field.
As a Co-operative, GCCHEA is run by member volunteers. In order to facilitate a close-knit community of homeschoolers over such a large area, we have families grouped together by location and/or by similar interests, and leaders who coordinate events in the local areas. Members are always welcome to join multiple groups!
One major advantage to joining GCCHEA is that we have an AMAZING forum in which members are able to connect with other members, as well as learn about the upcoming events. Our forum is easy to customize so that members can select to be notified of only those events that interest them. Since GCCHEA is so well known in the community, we are often sent information by vendors, as well news of upcoming contests, such as writing and poetry contests. We are a clearing house of local and regional homeschool information information.
GCCHEA, is a very active group and usually hosts 4-5 Big Events per year, put on by the Steering Committee, as well as various other local group activities throughout the year. Field Trips are a regular activity, but there are many other events as well. We usually have something for everyone! (And, if you don’t find your event listed, contact the Steering Committee. We are always open to considering new ideas!)
A few of the activities sponsored by GCCHEA, for its members, include:
  • Monthly Moms Night Out
  • Testing
  • End of the Year Skate Party
  • PE Day
  • Homeschooling through High School
  • Teen Group
  • Back-to-School Event
  • Field Trips
  • Military Families Group
  • Park Days
  • Service Projects
  • Used Curriculum Sale with the HSLT
  • Special Needs Group –  NEW
A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT DUES
Our dues are $18/year.
In order to accommodate those who move into our area, and want to get connected over the summer before the busy homeschool schedules start in the fall, the GCCHEA Steering Committee has modified our yearly subscription term. Effective immediately, the GCCHEA dues year has been shifted to begin June 1st and run through May 31st.
New 2013-2014 Members
If you are a first time member joining GCCHEA for the 2013-2014 year, you may join at any time and your membership will be activated as soon as payment is received. Memberships will expire on May 31, 2014.

Free-Range Learning Co-op

Free-Range Learning Cooperative

A Northeast Florida Homeschool Learning Community

Free-Range?
Yes! We have stepped out of mainstream public education. We just say no to the status quo. We come from a variety of religious and spiritual beliefs. We embrace diversity of all kinds. We live outside the box, but inside a thriving educational community. And we’d love for you to join us.

Learning?
We offer a brilliant collection of creative and progressive educational minds. We meet most Tuesdays in San Marco (near downtown Jacksonville) for an inspired day of learning, lunch, and laughter. Our classes include something for everyone, from tots to teens and from free-spirited unschoolers to enthusiastic classical homeschoolers.

Cooperative!
co-op-er-a-tive [koh-op-ruh-tiv]
adjective
1. working or acting together willingly for a common purpose or benefit.
2. demonstrating a willingness to cooperate: The librarian was cooperative in helping us find the book.
3. involving or denoting an educational program comprising both classroom study and on-the-job or real-life training.

We are a strong, supportive, educational community.

The Free-Range was formed out of a need for a quality secular homeschool co-op in the Jacksonville area that is open and accepting to all.  We do not discriminate based on race, religion (or lack of,) gender, sexual orientation, educational philosophy, political views, etc.  We ask that political opinions and religious beliefs be kept as personal and private to your family.  We also ask that you are open and accepting of others whose opinions and beliefs may be different than your own.  Our base support groups are Not Your Average Homeschoolers (NYAH), Jacksonville Inclusive Secular Homeschoolers (JaxISH), and River City Unschoolers.  The majority of our members are also members of at least one of these wonderful groups.

We meet most Tuesdays at Swaim United Methodist Church. Our year is divided into three semesters: fall, spring, and summer. The fall and spring semesters are twelve weeks and the summer semester is six weeks. Additional Tuesdays are filled with optional field trips and parties usually on the first Tuesday of the month.  Some classes run year long and others run a single semester.  Our day begins with a welcome gathering at 9:45. Our first class session begins at 10:00 and our last class ends at 3:00.  There are five class sessions within this time. We have lunch in the middle of the day after session 3. Many families bring their lunches, while other order food for delivery or run out to one of the many restaurants close by. Families are not required to stay all day and may come for part or half of the day.

Our annual family membership fee is $75 and includes membership for your family from summer to summer.  All families are required to volunteer in some way.  Volunteer positions include teacher, co-teacher, assistant, nursery worker, committee member, coordinator, and any other way your family is able to make a volunteer contribution to the co-op.  We are a community where everyone pitches in for the betterment of our community and our children. Our fees are kept minimal and cover facility rental, website, insurance, and basic operating expenses.  Without each family contributing this would not be possible.  The majority of our classes have only a $1 class fee, while some classes have a minimal material fee or require the additional purchase of materials.  We do offer a few classes that carry an additional class fee.  These classes are taught by outside teachers.  Even though we attempt to reduce the class fee as much as possible, these teachers or businesses determine their own class prices and can not be negotiated.  Examples of classes with fees are Big Bang Science, a certified Spanish teacher, piano, and dance. These class fees range between $100 and $150 per student per semester.

We welcome all educational philosophies.  Some of our classes are structured and others are not so structured.  We also have a Free-Range Area (FRA) available for children that aren’t taking a class during a session.  In the FRA there are things to explore such as art supplies, books, erector sets, Legos, etc.  Nursery volunteers are available to care for infants while parents fulfill volunteer obligations and parents are always welcome to take their younger child into the nursery for play or rest.

Please look over our classes and schedule.  2012 – 2013 is our first year and we have had wonderful success with all our classes, volunteers, and families.  If you wish to join our community please register your family and pay the membership fee. Once approved, you will be able to register your children for classes.  A volunteer coordinator will contact you to discuss volunteer opportunities if you haven’t already made a commitment.  Volunteer commitments can be for one or two semesters. We simply ask that you honor your commitment as best you can.

Compared to some other co-ops we may seem to have a relaxed or laid-back attitude. We do not feel the need for rigorous institutionalized learning, although we do offer some traditionally structured classes.  Age ranges or grade levels are approximate and left up to the parent.  It is the parents’ responsibility to make sure their child is a good fit for the class.  Children learn at different rates so we do not attempt to put all of them in the same box.  We do ask that you are respectful of the other children in the class when placing a child outside of the suggested age as maturity levels are just as important as a child’s knowledge and physical levels.

Fellowship of Christian Homeschoolers

FCH was established in 2004 to serve as a steady source of encouragement and support to local homeschooling families by providing members with fellowship, support, and communications, as well as social, educational & outreach opportunities.

Homeschooling can be an awesome adventure but one that often needs the support, encouragement, and interaction that can only be offered by other homeschooling families. With this in mind FCH strives to connect you to programs and activities that support BOTH the parents and the children as well as the family as a whole.
FCH offers your family support throughout the year by organizing and hosting different events, outings and field trips. FCH Members are eligible for discounted membership to the FPEA – Florida Parent Educators Association, which carries with it a host of additional benefits including discounts to area merchants.
We average 180 families in our membership annual and have ALL KINDS of member families in our group. In addition to local homeschooling families, we have several families that join because they  are just thinking about homeschooling and want to connect with other families before they take the plunge! Faith Christian School of Seminole Inc.

Thank you for inquiring about Faith Christian School (FCS)!  FCS is a private Christian school that operates under Chapter 617 of the Florida Statutes as a non-profit corporation.  We are governed by a Board of Directors that are also school members.  The teachers are the parents whose children are enrolled with us, holding classes in their respective homes.

Through joining Faith Christian School, a family gains the advantage of: Accountability  to people who hold similar Christian, educational, and philosophical views. Privacy  through no required contact with government employees.  Credentials  Faith Christian School holds articulation agreements with the Florida  Virtual School and Seminole State College for dual enrollment purposes.  When a student graduates from FCS, he receives a diploma embossed with our corporate seal and a transcript that will be readily received by any institute of higher education.  Last year, graduates of our small school received thousands of dollars in scholarships, including Bright Futures.  FCS facilitates these happy events by keeping orderly records, filing the necessary paperwork, and coaching parents on properly schooling their students.

The school functions as both a shield from unnecessary governmental contact and as a bridge to the public sector items that are advantageous to us as home-schoolers. What is required of our families?  A brief monthly attendance and grade report, a portfolio of students’ work each semester, attendance at encouraging bi-monthly parent meetings, and an annual standardized test or evaluation for students in grades three and older.  Our fees include a new family registration fee of $50, plus $250 tuition per family for the 2012-2013 school year.  We can afford these minimal fees because FCS has no paid staff, only servants.

Cornerstone Christian Home Educators

Our Statement of Faith

We believe that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” II Timothy 3:16-17. The Holy Bible is the complete, inerrant, infallible Word of God.
We believe that God has existed from all eternity in the trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His life without sin, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His person returning in power and glory.
We believe that man was created in God’s image, but fell into sin and is in violation of Gods’ righteous requirements and His holy character. Man is therefore under His wrath and just condemnation except through the repentance of his sins and the acceptance of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts, indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers the believer for godly living and service. We believe that salvation is a free gift offered to all sinners that must be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, but only in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.

Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way that you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” I Timothy 4:12 Mission Statement: God’s Word declares that faith without action is useless; therefore, Providence has called us to educate, encourage and impact our Christian youth, to reclaim America’s Christian heritage and to understand the principles promised in the Declaration of Independence and guaranteed in the United States Constitution in order to hold our elected officials accountable and secure the rights that Heaven gave. -Jordan Baker Our Purpose: To Educate, Encourage, and Impact the world through our faith and the conservative principles of our Founding Fathers.CCTA is where we learn to defend our faith and the foundation that this great nation was built upon; where we learn what it is we believe and to be able to communicate to others about it.

Classical Conversations – St.Pete

Maps are fabulous little devices in whatever form I find them. Some are printed on parchment, others electronic, and still others are etched out in conversation with a close friend. In any form, maps tell me where I’m going!

But alas, a faulty map-maker can trigger disaster. Thus, when searching out a trustworthy map to guide our home education, I rejoiced to discover Leigh Bortins. A godly, homeschooling, North Carolina mom of four boys, Leigh desired to home educate her sons
until college. Wanting more than teaching ‘to the test’ and surveying material in texts and workbooks, she wanted her sons to be truly educated-to ‘own’ ideas, information, and thoughts AND to be able to articulate them persuasively, factually, and winsomely.

She wanted her boys to know God and to make Him known. She wanted her boys to learn how to learn and be able to learn anything and everything they needed to live the life God had planned for them. Her prayers and research led her to classical education.

To help others understand the ancient gem she had dusted off and now offered to her family, she began a formal program called
Classical Conversations.  Classical Conversations is designed to educate the entire family.

Leigh believes that a child’s best teacher is the child’s parent and in light of this, the aim of her ministry is to enable parents to teach
their children at home all the way until college and beyond, while at the same time, helping parents obtain the education they
never received. Leigh often refers to this blessing as God redeeming the education of multiple generations.

Calvary Chapel St. Petersburg

The Vision: Calvary Chapel Missions
As an outreach of Calvary Chapel St. Petersburg Missions Department, short-term missions exist to be the hands and feet of Jesus with the goal of spiritual transformation and growth of the local community and team members, resulting in church planting, global awareness, growth of leaders, expansion of faith in action and exploration of long-term missions.

I. Commitment to Supporting Church Planting and Nurturing
As a priority, Calvary Chapel St. Petersburg is committed to supporting missionary endeavors that involve raising up indigenous churches, with the end goal of being a self supporting and a locally run Christian entity. Our emphasis is on Bible believing Calvary Chapel or Calvary style ministries (ministries consistent with our values). The ministries are defined by dependence on the Holy Spirit in directing its operation and ministry and the four functions of the church as defined by Acts 2:42:

* Leading people into a greater understanding of the whole counsel of God through his Word
* Developing fellowship
* Participating in communion among believers
* Placing priority on prayer.

Our short-term mission trips will strive to empower and support the local people we work with to continue to change lives in their communities, even after we have come and gone. We will only participate in outreach that is locally initiated, ongoing and involves follow-up after the team has left.

II. Commitment to Missionaries Sent from Local Fellowship
Calvary Chapel St. Petersburg is committed to supporting missionaries from our local fellowship by sending short-term teams. Our priority will be to support missionary efforts that lead to indigenous church planting or nurturing and care for widows and orphans.

III. Commitment to Sound Principles While Involved at a Location
We will:
* Avoid situations that lead to paternalism at all costs (i.e., creating an environment where the nationals feel they cannot continue the work on their own).
* Avoid creating a dependency on our resources (money, time and involvement).
* Encourage national involvement and ownership whenever possible.

IV. Commitment to Develop a Mission Minded Body through Short-Term Missions
Our goals for the church body for short-term missions are three fold:

* To raise up Christian leaders that are sent out as missionaries from the local body.
* To create a missions minded church body with a global perspective.
* To build up Christian leaders at Calvary Chapel.

V. Commitment to a Holistic View of Mission
We believe that everyone is called to serve the kingdom of God and we believe that Missions involvement is for every believer. As a result, we are committed to three types of teams:

* Service/Encouragement Trips (Missions Level 1 – service and lighter construction)
* Work Teams (Missions Level 2 – medical, construction, etc.)
* Primarily Evangelism (Missions Level 3 – intense ministry)

VI. Commitment to Building Relationships with Nationals
We will focus on participating in the lives of the people in the community as well as working with them, as opposed to doing something for them. Our priority is to be involved in work that involves nationals, allowing for maximum interaction and opportunities for relationships to be formed on an individual basis as well as on a community level. Building relationships takes time, and we will prioritize supporting locations where there is an opportunity to return to participate with the local church or organization.

VII. Commitment to Long-Term Partnership and Involvement
We are committed to developing long-term participation and partnership with the host organization. We will continually reevaluate the process and our involvement to ensure we are helping and not hindering the local work. In addition, we believe that long-term involvement of participants in missions is strengthened through follow up events and debriefing. As our focus is long-term, our training will reflect that vision.

In all things, Calvary Chapel will continue to allow the Lord to define the specific direction of the Short-Term Missions Program; however, in a desire to be consistent and to be focused with the resources God has given us, we have defined this mission statement.

Applications for future trips are available at the Ministry Info Center or by linking to the Short-Term Mission Trip Application from our Web site.

Christian Home Educators of Southwest Florida

ABOUT CHESF

Christian Home Educators of Southwest Florida (CHESF) was established in 1990 to support and encourage fellow homeschoolers in Lee County, Florida.  We have been blessed over the years with an experienced body of members willing to share their passion with others. Speakers at regular meetings have included early childhood teachers, media specialists, reading specialists, homeschool curriculum publishers, environmental and geological specialists, writing teachers, and evaluators.  In addition, guest speakers have been invited to provide informative and educational seminars and workshops. Families have enjoyed fellowships, seminars, field trips, workshops and various innovative activities that encourage and educate those dedicated to home education.

CHESF operates as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. The Steering Committee, comprised of an elected President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as, several appointed Coordinator positions.  Together, they are responsible for planning the monthly CHESF sponsored events.  To encourage building family relationships among CHESF members, a family gathering is planned once a month from August through May.  This may be in the form of a General Meeting, Family Fellowship or Educational Fair and is typically held the second Monday of the month (but check calendar.)  In addition, just the moms get together for encouragement and support for Mom’s Night Out.  Field trips and other student activities are planned by parents.  As a parent cooperative support group, every member is encouraged to be involved in group organization, as well as in planning field trips and other activities.  We invite you to join us for one of our meetings or fellowships.

Christian Home Educators of Plant City

MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of this organization is to support and encourage the member families of Christian Home Educators of Plant City.  This shall be accomplished through prayer, fellowship, a monthly newsletter, field trips and events, membership in the Florida Parent Educators Association, and information regarding conventions and other opportunities as they pertain to home education.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, and of supreme and final authority in faith and life (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21). We believe that there is one living and true God; an infinite, intelligent Spirit, perfect in all His attributes, one in essence but eternally subsistent in three Persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Luke 3:22; Matthew 28:19; II Corinthians 13:14). We believe in the fall of man (Genesis 3:1-24; Romans 5:12); although originally created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-28), through the disobedience of Adam, man fell into a sinful state, totally unable to justify himself before God (John 3:3-5). We believe that Jesus Christ is the express image of the invisible God, which is to say He is God (John 1:1-3); that He became man, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15), being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary (John 1:14; Matthew 1:18-23); that He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin (II Corinthians 5:21); that He arose from the dead in the body in which He was crucified (Luke 24:36-43); that He ascended into heaven in that body glorified, where He is now, our interceding High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16); and that He will return again personally, visibly, and gloriously (Acts 1:11).

We believe that salvation is wholly of God, by grace; that God in love gave His only Son to die on the cross for sin, thus procuring the redemption of those who come to Him; that this salvation is not merited in any way by man; that God commands men everywhere to repent of sin and believe in Christ; and that this salvation is eternal in its duration and results in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which enables all true believers to live godly lives (Ephesians 2:8-9;  Titus 3:5-7; I Peter 1:18-19). Thanks for visiting the Christian Home Educators of Plant City website.  CHEPC is an organization whose purpose is to support and encourage our homeschool families.  We accomplish this through prayer, monthly Mom’s Fellowships, field trips and events.  We also provide membership in Florida Parent Educators Association, and this website used to communicate information and opportunities as they pertain to home education. Current and prospective members are expected to attend our Annual Kick-Off Event.  This is when Membership Agreements (including our Statement of Faith) are signed and when our annual dues are collected.  After these requirements are met, families are approved to log on our secure website. If you are interested in more information concerning our group including the location and date of our Kick-off, you can contact a member of our leadership team:

Christian Family Educators of Orlando

CFEO MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to support and encourage our member families who are engaged in home education. Our philosophy is founded on Biblical, Judeo-Christian values. In addition, we will share social, educational, and relational opportunities and resources that include the entire family.

We are definitely an active group, and you will find excursions for just about all age groups. Our members are the ones responsible for planning our excursions so they vary from year to year. We also offer park days once a month, as well as a Mom’s Support Night. Our choices are only as limited as we make them. Some of our families like to plan Service Projects, and take an opportunity to teach their children about helping others. Some of our trips are educational, such as touring the control tower at the Orlando International Airport, touring Tallahassee, getting behind the scenes looks at different restaurants, participating in an International Day Fair, going to plays, and our list goes on and on. Many of our excursions are for just having fun! We’ve gone ice skating, had lunch at Downtown Disney, gone to numerous parks, etc. The kids, as well as moms, all have a great time!

We accept members for each school year during the month of August. Attendance at the August planning meeting is mandatory for members. Please contact us through the request membership button for more information.

CHEFF – Christian Home Educators Fellowship of Florida

MISSION STATEMENT

Our goals are to provide homeschool families with information, encouragement, and Christian relationships. CHEFF is for those seeking to communicate and build support networks with other families who share like values. Involvement within the homeschool community is encouraged — whether by sharing news, politics, or homeschool-related issues that may be helpful and pertinent to other families. CHEFF serves to support Christian rights to speak freely without concern of offending those who do not share their Christian beliefs; however, because CHEFF does not represent a particular denomination, we encourage conversations that respect those differences.

CHEFF seeks to provide an atmosphere that fosters academic instruction which enhances the parent’s efforts as they fully accept the biblical responsibility to “train up a child in the way he should go.” (Proverbs 22:6) Support for our members through prayer, commitment, the sharing of educational information, and the sharing of gifts and talents that God has given us to help one another. We strive to provide an environment that fosters and encourages relationships among children and adults that honor the Lord. For students, our goal is to offer: Consistent opportunities to interact with a group of children and teachers and to learn the importance of blessing and respecting authority. We encourage and re-enforce the character traits of attentiveness, cooperation, and responsibility. We hope to offer activities and opportunities that would otherwise be impractical or impossible at home. We also support a learning environment that equips them to think clearly, concisely, and critically.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

1. We believe that all Scripture of the Holy Bible is God inspired, completely inerrant in the original writing, and the supreme and final authority in faith and life.

2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man.

4. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word, and deed.

5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representation and substitution sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified by His shed blood.

6. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and His present life for us as High Priest and advocate.

7. We believe in “the blessed hope,” the personal premillenial and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

8. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God, a relationship in which they are eternally secure.

9. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of the lost.

Calvary Chapel Homeschool Ministry

The Calvary Chapel HomeSchool Ministry started with just a few parents who had been homeschooling their children and wanted to gather together for emotional and informational support.  They decided to group together and organize activities that would help provide support to one another.

Since then, the Ministry has grown with more and more activities coordinated to bring together homeschooling parents and children to provide fellowship opportunities through scheduled classes, meetings, and other special events such as family pool parties, career day, play groups, and organized field trips.  Every year, the types of activities are different.

Our Ministry is a mixture of informal and formal activities.  The leadership team schedules formal events and classes for homeschooled students such as art and dance classes, the biography fair, a talent show, etc.  During these events, the children can learn or showcase their skills and activities throughout the school year.  It is also our intent that the children interact with one another to develop friendships.  Finally, we see the need for informal activities for parents to gather and discuss homeschool issues in a comfortable environment where questions can be asked and answered by various levels of homeschooling families.

It is not our intent to instruct homeschooling parents “how to” homeschool your child(ren), but instead to provide one another with encouragement, fellowship, and help, using God & biblical principals as our example, with your homeschool journey.

As a ministry of Calvary Chapel of Melbourne (CCM), CCHM represents God and follows Christ’s example, and we share God’s Word with homeschool families. In 2Corinthians 6:2-3, we are instructed to “. . . giv[e] no cause for offense in anything, so that the ministry will not be discredited, but in everything commending ourselves as servants of God . . .”    We are told that “. . . the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” 1 John 2:6. We are not merely a “homeschool group,” but also a ministry for God.

As a ministry of CCM, we have instruction and guidance for ourselves in the Word of God. In the Bible, God provided all of the instruction we need to operate His ministry and have a Godly environment for all of our functions. In 2 Timothy 2:24 we are instructed that “. . . the Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth.” In addition, 2 Timothy 3:16 reads that “all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness . . .”

Please know and trust that our Leadership Team members and their families have agreed to follow these instructions and guidelines from the Bible. We are also instructed to be “above reproach . . .temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, . . . [and] be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity . . .” 1 Timothy 3:1-3.

Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale Homeschoolers

OUR PURPOSE

The focus of the Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Homeschoolers is first and foremost to encourage and remind parents that God has given them the responsibility to teach their children to have a relationship with Him. We believe home schooling is an excellent vehicle to accomplish this command and provides a unique opportunity for parents to build relationships with their children through ample time together and discussion of many educational, spiritual and life topics. Earthly education is second to personal relationship with one’s Creator and Savior.

Secondly, we want to provide fellowship and accountability among Christian home schooling families. The family is the most important basis of relationships. Parents need to connect and support one another in this area and get to know the families and friends of their own children.

In addition, we want to inspire parents and students to strive for excellence, glorify God and shine as a bright light to a watching world!

Lastly, we want to connect students with enhanced educational opportunities that may not be possible or practical for a single homeschooling family.

Brandon FL Homeschooling

Our Foundations Programs provide a Classical Christian community for homeschool families with students in grades K4-6th. These power-packed programs meet once a week for twelve weeks in the fall and twelve weeks in the winter/spring months.

Based on the classical model of education, families meet weekly to introduce new memory work (or grammar of a subject) and review old memory work using Classical Conversations’ Foundations Guide as the heart of the curriculum. A trained tutor creatively introduces the memory work and leads the classroom time. The memory work is divided into 6 subjects: timeline/history, geography, math, science, Latin, and English grammar. In addition to the memory work, students also participate in a fine arts project/lesson, a science project, and an opportunity to practice oral presentation skills each week.

This two-hour afternoon tutorial is designed to prepare fourth- through sixth grade students for the Challenge program. This power-packed course is the perfect complement for our Foundations students, but any family may participate. English grammar, writing and arithmetic speed and accuracy are the essential components of this popular 24-week program.

The language arts portion (45 minutes) employs Classical Conversations own The Essentials of the English Language (EEL) Guide which includes lessons that provide a mixture of grammar and dialectic learning tools used to establish language structure understanding. In addition to improving their writing, students who study English grammar in Essentials are better prepared to study Latin and understand original source documents in later history classes.

The writing portion (45 minutes) is based on the method of the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) by Andrew Pudewa utilizing IEW’s signature method of structure and style. This method teaches students how to organize their writing through different writing structures, while also providing stylist techniques that make a student’s writing more engaging. Students often practice writing skills on the same subjects that are being studied in their current Foundations cycle.

The math portion (30 minutes) focuses on reinforcing the ‘essential’ elements of arithmetic through challenging math games and problems. This program is designed to complement your home math program by drilling speed and accuracy with basic operations of arithmetic.

Arlington Explorers

The Arlington Explorers is an eclectic homeschool support group serving Arlington and surrounding areas. We meet for weekly park dates, monthly field trips, small interest-based groups, and service projects. Additionally, we host an end of the year party to celebrate a year’s hard work. Although the majority of our families in AE are Christian, affiliation with a specific church or denomination is not required. Our members attend a wide variety of churches and use an equally wide variety of curriculums.

Membership

Park day participation and e-mails are always free through Arlington Explorers. However, families who wish to participate with the group on field trips, craft days, discounted testing, and all other AE events, must pay a $30 per year annual fee. Membership lasts to September 1 of the upcoming year, regardless of when the family pays. The fee is used for group maintainance expenses, advance field trip deposits, and advanced purchase of supplies for children’s and family activities. Additional fees for field trips, testing, craft days, etc. may apply.

Although Arlington Explorers is a Christian group, we do not require a signed statement of faith to join and all denominations are welcome. Our members feel that a true statement of faith is exemplified by how we live our lives and interact with others. Therefore, we require that member families observe our rules for park days and field trip/special events. Please review the rules on the website to determine if our group is the right fit for your family.

Park Days

Every Friday we have a park day at Ed Austin Regional Park beginning on September 10, 2012 from 1-3 p.m when weather permits and public school is in session. Park days provide an opportunity for moms and children to enjoy fellowship and encouragement. New homeschoolers can glean from the wisdom of the veterans, who are willing to answer your questions.

Jacksonville, FL 32225-1834

Field Trips

We are pleased to offer monthly field trips to a variety of venues. Some of our more memorable field trips in the past included tours of The Sally Corporation, Agrirama, Channel 4 News, a helicopter squadron at our local Naval base, and many more.

Small Groups

Rather than form a formal co-op, the Arlington Explorers encourages the development of small, interest based groups within the group.  As small groups are added, descriptions will be displayed on this page.

GPS (Getting Priorities Straight)

GPS is a small group opportunity for youth grades 6 and up. One of the goals of the Arlington Explorers is to equip and strengthen a fleet of Christ-following youth who are maturing and learning as they develop their personal skills of discernment through leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, and fellowship. If we can successfully teach our children to make wise choices on what they spend their time, energy, effort, and money, how to interact with others in leadership, as a team, and how to express why they make the choices they do in logical terms, they will leave the nest far more prepared than the majority of adults roaming this world. Most importantly, youth need to have FUN while learning these valuable life lessons.

Community Service Projects

Arlington Explorers is proud to participate in at least one community service project per year. Some of the projects in past years include: collecting pop-tops to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House, making no-sew fleece pillows for Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital, participating in Operation Christmas Box and a City Rescue Mission Food Drive, collecting curriculum materials and other needed items for homeschooling families hit by hurricanes, and collecting items for the BEAKS Bird and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Sanctuary. In May 2007 our 4-H group collected over $1,200 via a walk-a-thon to purchase 274 books and 77 puzzles and games for the Wolfson Children’s Hospital’s library.

Fundraisers

To raise funds for our group we collect Box Tops for Education. If needed for a specific purpose within the group, we will organize an additional fundraiser during the home school year.

H.O.M.E. Homeschoolers of Miami Enrichment

Mission Statement and Philosophy

Homeschoolers of Miami Enrichment (H.O.M.E.) is a South Florida, non-profit, volunteer-based corporation, that provides a forum for conducting enrichment classes for all families that home educate their children, regardless of their race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, or educational handicap, in a family-oriented setting. We come together in H.O.M.E. in an atmosphere of respect, kindness and the pursuit of a common goal – the education of our children at home. All homeschoolers are welcome to join H.O.M.E.

We believe it is the responsibility of parents to train the minds of their own children to think rationally and morally.  HOME assists families by providing the opportunity to join with other families to offer the best possible enrichment opportunities.  The parent ultimately remains the teacher.  HOME instructors are facilitators, instructing the student in class, while the parent oversees and leads the student during the week.  In order for HOME to be successful it is imperative to have parental involvement as we are an enrichment co-op.

CO-OP Homeschooling

HOME Enrichment is a co-op and therefore parents MUST remain on campus AT ALL TIMES while their children are in class. If you plan to be outside the building in your car, the sunken garden, chapel or library while your student is in class please let a HOME officer know where you are in case of an emergency situation for your child.  STUDENTS MAY NOT BE DROPPED OFF AT ENRICHMENT.  You may, however, have another adult who is on campus be in charge of your child(ren).  If that is the case, you must sign the Parent Not on Campus Form and you MUST have someone willing to do your required volunteer hour. However, you are still responsible to see that your volunteer assignment is satisfied each week. At no time shall any student be considered to be in the care, custody, or control of HOME or a Calvary Chapel Miami Beach Academy employee.

If you must bring a guest for the day, please make sure to check with the Registrar to receive a Visitors Registration and Liability Waiver Form to be filled out before you begin taking the guest to classes.  A child who is visiting may take classes if the instructor so allows.  Please make sure your guest is under your supervision at all times and that you are able to fulfill your volunteer hour.  The class fee will be prorate it for that one class.
