Wings Homeschool Group

Welcome to Wings Homeschool Group (Wings HG) located in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Wings exists to provide a social time for both parents and children in a Christian environment. We offer support and fellowship for parents while children engage in sharing and learning experiences. Tuition NOTE: Class costs for ages 7 and up are divided into 3 appropriate amounts and paid by parents directly to tutors each semester. Parents will be writing between 3 and 8 checks in the fall, and a bit less in the spring. We apologize for this. It is necessary in order to remain a non-profit in good standing with the government. To make this process easier, Jill Schwarz and Pam Kilsdonk are available to help by phone and email, and there are tuition payment envelopes created for each semester with checklists for parents. Any payment turned in as a single check will have to be returned to the parent so that separate checks can be written out.

One more tuition note: We are looking into offering online tuition payment. Deposit and class supply fees may still need to be paid by check. Thanks for your patience as we work through the many details… This is an approximation of tuition and is not the final tuition due. Tuition is subject to change depending on class size, increase in rent, unforeseen additional expenses, fundraising efforts, etc. Tuition due is usually determined by the end of July for Fall Semester and early November for Spring Semester. There is a fall semester administration fee of $60 and spring semester administration fee of $20 per family. (note: if enrolling as new family in spring, the spring admin fee is $60). Fall tuition and fees are payable no later than the Mom’s Tea in August, and it’s preferred that families mail payment upon receipt of invoice via email in early August. No checks are cashed until 2 weeks prior to classes starting in the fall, so please feel free to post-date your checks appropriately.

The following forms can be emailed to you as email attachments, and are all required to be read in order to enroll in Wings: This Intro Letter, Statement of Faith/Mission, Sick Policy/Liability Waiver, Rules of Respect/Discipline Policy, Enrollment Form, Parent Handbook and registration check list. Please carefully read all the information enclosed, fill out and sign all 5 forms that are required to be returned, and include a $20 deposit per child to hold your spot in Wings. This is a non-refundable deposit, and is applied to your fall semester administration fee.

For returning families, all completed forms and the full deposit must be turned in by May 1st of the current year. Registration packets are considered complete only when all applicable forms are filled out, signed, and a complete deposit is included ~ incomplete registration packets will be returned. New families: registrations are processed beginning May 2nd each year and will continue thru August 1st or until classes are full, whichever comes first.

** What we do **

Monthly support group meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at Grace Church. Each month has a different topic and a time for fellowship. Warroad Area Teachers of Children at Home

WATCH exists to facilitate networking in order to provide encouragement and assistance for those so desiring. The idea is to watch and see what happens when parents work at raising their children in a Godly manner. In addition, watch and see what happens when families work together to assist and encourage each other in the context of home education and other family related issues.

I. Motivation

Deuteronomy 6:4-6 “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.”

II. Responsibility

Deuteronomy 6: 7-9 “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”

III. Goals

Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”

In conclusion,

II Peter 1:5-8 “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

A Letter from our REACH Board of Directors:

Dear Home Educator,

We would like to invite you to apply for membership with REACH for the 2013-2014 school year. One hundred forty-nine families were part of our home schooling organization last year. Membership runs from June 1 to May 31. Membership requirements include meeting the REACH family definition;  working toward or actively engaged in private, independent home education; paying annual dues of $20; agreeing to follow the REACH guidelines, and assisting in at least one service opportunity.

REACH has no paid positions. The volunteer time and effort of the families that join make our organization successful. We are thankful for the members who diligently pitch in to make REACH what it is.

If you choose not to become a member of REACH, you are still welcome to attend and observe the events listed on our website’s home page. This includes many of our parent activities such as moms’ meetings, informational parent workshops, used book sales, and more.

The secure side of our website has the “member’s only” calendar which lists student activities for our REACH homeschooled students. (Homeschooled students is defined as those children under seven that the parents plan to home educate or those seven and older whose names have been submitted on a letter of intent to the local school district. If a member family has school aged children who they are not homeschooling, those children may not attend the student activities (field trips, spelling bee, enrichment classes, etc.).

Christian home education is more than academics. Christian home education, at its best, is actually an all-encompassing discipleship of children. It is our desire that REACH will equip and encourage parents to mentor their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

The REACH Board of Directors

Owatonna Area Christian Home Educators

What is OACHE?

OACHE (pronounced “oh-SHAY”) is a homeschooling support group and co-op for Christian families in the Owatonna, Minnesota area. We are a non-profit corporation registered in the state of Minnesota with a board of directors made of elected members of the group.

Why do we exist?

We exist to help homeschooling families raise children who love the Lord and love to learn by providing encouragement, information, and support for parents, as well as learning, social, and service opportunities for their children.

Who belongs to OACHE?

New homeschoolers, veterans, and in between….small families to large who use a variety of curricula and teaching styles….we are a varied group. One thing we do have in common, and require for membership, is an agreement to support and uphold our Statement of Faith (see link at left). We are unapologetically Christian. All classes, activities, and meeting topics will have our faith in Christ at their center, and we will seek to honor Him in all we do.

What else is required for membership?

Another requirement for OACHE membership is that you are homeschooling at least one of your children or have a preschooler whom you are planning to homeschool. All memberships are subject to approval by the board of directors. Annual membership costs $27.50 per family.

What do we mean by “homeschooling”?

OACHE considers the definition of homeschooling to be more than just “educating children at home”. It is an educational lifestyle where the parents are the decision makers, not the state. While there are several online academies that offer public school at home, we do not consider those options to fit the definition of “homeschooling” as the parents are not the ultimate authorities. While you are welcome to come to a parent meeting to meet us and see what OACHE is all about, if you are schooling with an online academy, you will not find OACHE a good fit for your family.

What do we offer?

Parent meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month, September – May, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Childcare will be available so that both parents may attend. Meetings will offer time for announcements, support and encouragement, fellowship, fun, mentoring, and learning. Co-op classes are offered for preschool – high school and meet once a week for 2 eight week sessions. One parent is required to be present in the building and volunteer for one hour minimum during class-time, while a mom’s support time is offered for the opposite hour. Owatonna Arts Center classes are offered each month. Park Playdates, Family Fun Events, and Field trips to local sites as well as regular trips to the Children’s Theater Company and the Minnesota Orchestra. Annual Presentation Day and Recital where students have the opportunity to perform, study a topic of interest, or conduct a science project and present their accomplishments to others. We encourage our members to share their gifts and ideas and be part of the planning process for these activities.

Where do we meet?

Parent meetings, classes, and many other activities take place at Bethel Church, 1611 Hemlock Ave., Owatonna. Click here for a map to Bethel.

How do I become a member of OACHE?

An OACHE membership costs $27.50 per year (September 1 – August 31). To apply for membership for the 2012-2013 academic year you may do so on this website if you click on “Request NEW Membership” to the left of this public homepage or for more information about OACHE, email us at oache@oache.net or come to one of our parent meetings to meet us in person.

Where can I get more information about homeschooling?

Two excellent sources of information for Christian homeschoolers are the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) and the Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators (MACHE). Other great sites are available on the internet; however, nothing can take the place of talking one-on-one to those of us who are “in the trenches”. Come and see what OACHE is all about! We’d love to help you as you begin your homeschooling journey.

MHEA – Minnetonka Home Educators Association

Welcome to the Minnetonka Home Educators Association (MHEA) Home Page

If you are reading this page, it is most likely because you are considering or have already decided to home educate your child(ren) and are looking to connect with other home schooling families in your area. While our name reflects a Minnetonka location, many of our families live in neighboring communities as well. Welcome!

MHEA was founded just over 25 years ago by a group of parents devoted to providing support for fellow home educators in the then, new and unusual endeavor of home education. Thanks to the hard work of these pioneers (and many others like them statewide) who have made it legally possible, home schooling is now a much more common and generally accepted option for educating our children. Nonetheless, the need for fellowship, support and encouragement is just as important as ever for home educating families.

As defined in our Mission Statement, the Minnetonka Home Educators’ Association (MHEA) is a group of Christian families joined together to encourage and build one another up as we home school our children. We confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and seek to honor Him through our families. Parents meet together regularly to enjoy fellowship, learn from others and pray for our families as we face the daily challenges of home education. We also provide opportunities for our children to participate in educational, social and enrichment activities with their fellow home schooled friends.

MHEA is primarily a support group. Our monthly meetings for parents are held the second Thursday evening of the month, September through May. Our format changes from month to month and has included guest speakers, a panel of experienced homeschool parents or graduates, small group and large group discussions on various relevant topics and at least one social get together. In addition to monthly meetings, there are many opportunities for activities and field trips with other families throughout the year. Recent events have included book clubs, Orchestra Hall concerts, plays at Stages or Children’s Theater, volunteering together at Feed My Starving Children, a day at Old Cahill School, nature center outings, a Valentine’s party, Christmas caroling at a nursing home in December and our annual Experts’ Night in March. Activities depend on the interests and initiative of our members and vary from year to year. While attendance at monthly meetings is expected, participation in other activities is optional.

Membership guidelines and responsibilities are outlined on the “About MHEA” page and our membership dues are $30 per year. If you are interested in joining us please fill out the “Request Membership” form linked on the left. If you have any further questions, please contact our Membership Coordinator, Linda Nelson at 952-474-6168or at linda.nelson05@gmail.com

Please know that we do limit our group size to 35 families. If our membership is at capacity, you will be notified and placed on a waiting list.

We look forward to meeting you!

H.E.Y. (Home Educators and Youth)

(NaturalNews) There are over 2 million home-educated children in this country, and this number is growing at 2% to 8% per year. This is not surprising, given the dismal track record of the public school system. If you have ever considered homeschooling your children (or even if you have not), here are six reasons to do it.

1. Academic excellence by homeschoolers is greater than you might think. Academically, homeschoolers far surpass publicly educated students. In one recent study, standardized test scores of homeschooled students were 37 percentile points above their public school counterparts. Previous studies showed similar results.

2. Social skill excellence by homeschoolers is greater than you might think. Most homeschooled children learn superior social skills (such as sharing, being kind, helping others, working together) at home with a parent supervising better than they would in a school setting where individual supervision is minimal. Interactions with extended family and neighborhood children, as well as extracurricular activities (like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts), provide additional opportunities for healthy social encounters.

3. There are more resources to help than you might think. Many states and regions have an annual conference with speakers, networking and curriculum vendors to help homeschooling families. Plentiful online and local support groups and co-ops are also helpful.

4. The legal hurdles are lower than you might think. Laws vary by state, but many require little or no notification, reporting or paperwork. Even in the most highly regulated states compliance with the law is not difficult. National non-profit organizations, like the Homeschool Legal Defense Association, help members understand their rights and responsibilities as homeschooling parents.

5. The benefits to your children are greater than you might think. Your children receive your worldview, beliefs, and values, and they eat your food rather than food from a school cafeteria. You can tailor your school day to your child, whether s/he is a slow learner or gifted academically. You can provide ample individual attention.

6. It is more important than you might think. Most Natural News readers are independent thinkers and healthy skeptics, qualities which are generally discouraged by the public school system. By homeschooling your children you can teach your children to think critically, rather than teaching to the test like they do in public school. This will better equip them to navigate the social, financial, food, and energy crises, which loom in our future.

If you do not think you are capable of teaching your children, you are in good company; when starting out no one thinks they can. Taking on the task of educating your own children is an enormous responsibility. But even seasoned homeschooling parents have insecurity about their ability to teach their children. This insecurity can be converted to motivation to learn and study how to best educate your children.

Anchor

Our Purpose

The Anchor Home School Group was formed by Christian home educators in order to provide families with supplemental educational classes, field trips and opportunities to develop friendships with other home school families in our community. Our vision and purpose at Anchor is to:

What do we offer?

We meet every other Friday, from 9:00 am to 12:00pm. Co-op classes are for K through 12th grade. We also have a preschool program for 3-year old to Pre-Kindergarten children, as well as a staffed nursery for newborn through 2-year old children.

We also offer monthly field trips and a yearly Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Art Fair and oral presentations.

Class Monitors

Class monitors are essential to our program. Teachers and monitors, together, form the basis for our instruction. You will be assigned to a class, nursery or preschool once a month.

Parent Support Group

We provide a parent’s support group each Anchor meeting for the moms who are not monitoring classes. In support group we share ideas to help each other in our home schooling, parenting, cooking, etc. We have a time of sharing and prayer. Though nursing infants are welcome, it is a time for adults to lend support to one another.

Where do we meet?

We meet at Riverdale Church, 3210 Bunker Lake Blvd. NW in Andover, Minnesota 55304.
