Winchester Area Homeschoolers Association

WAHA is an inclusive, Christian group. Inclusive simply means that our membership is OPEN TO ALL home educating families. Our members, regardless of faith, age, race, or gender, must understand and agree to abide by all of the guidelines that govern our group. All members need to understand up front that non-Christian families are a welcome part of our group. We encourage anyone that would not be comfortable with this to seek a more exclusive homeschooling support group.

WAHA is here to provide a support network for homeschoolers. The bond that holds members of WAHA together is their collective dedication to homeschooling as an educational alternative. WAHA’s primary mission is to support members as they seek to live out this commitment on a daily basis.
Assisting new homeschoolers is one of our top priorities. The first year of homeschooling provides unique challenges for families. WAHA will help to provide support and information to first-year homeschoolers as they face these challenges.
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I — I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.- Robert Frost”
WAHA is also part of a support system for the established homeschoolers. We strive to provide cooperative learning activities and socialization opportunities for both children and parents. We focus a great deal on field trips and group activities that provide both education and fun.
We also make sure our members are aware of educational and legislative information relative to homeschooling. Much of this information is given through our groups private message forum.

VA Lions Football

VA LIONS Football ~~ PURPOSE AND VISION

The VA LIONS Football Program is more than a team; it is a program with a mission. A growing number of parents throughout our country make the decisions of alternative forms of education for their children; and they make these decisions for a wide variety of reasons. One such decision is homeschooling; another is a viable private school. Overwhelmingly, though, the reasons behind this “exodus” represent the parents’ convictions in their core beliefs and in their determination to provide a firm foundation for their children.

The VA LIONS is a Christian-based football program. It is more often referred to as a program rather than a team because the VA LIONS is about more than football as a sport. We constantly aspire to foster essential life application through the core Christian values of our organization; and to reflect these values through the actions of the coaches and staff, as well as the demeanor, behavior, and character of our players. We provide leadership in coaches the players can respect; coaches who exhibit Christian principles with every player, regardless of a family’s choice of education, race, religion, culture or beliefs.

Sadly, most areas currently only offer Parks and Recreation football teams for players under the age of 14. At the high school level, most public high schools prohibit homeschooled, and privately schooled players from participating on their teams. The VA LIONS is, and always will be, a Christian-based organization, but we believe that our doors should always be open to any player who wants to play.

In the Northern Virginia area, this leaves the families of high school football players only one option if their boys want to play this dynamic game at a competitive level. The parents must abandon their convictions to provide an uncompromised homeschooled or privately schooled education for their children. We believe that the families’ right to an alternative form of education should not be neglected because of a lack of alternative high school athletic programs.

For this reason, the VA LIONS Football Program was established.

We provide the platform to allow these players to realize their full potential … by providing them an opportunity to pursue their passions. The objective is not only to enable them to simply play ball, but also to train and prepare the VA LIONS players to play at the college level, and to help them become strong and productive members of our society as they enter their new adult lives.

This is a groundbreaking venture for the Northern Virginia/Metro DC area. This is NOT a pastime…it is indeed a mission.

St Raymond Home School Group

St. Raymonds home school group (HSG) is a group of about 45 families that are linked together by our love of the Catholic church, and who want to educate our children at home.  Most of us use a Catholic home school program such as Seton or Mother of Divine Grace.  Though the beauty of home schooling is the flexibility that it provides a family – so there are numerous options for the family.   We have a monthly potluck in order to have families get to know each other better and form friendships among the children.  Additionally, we host a monthly teacher support group (TEA) and a bimonthly couples’ night.  Our goal is home school support (in all of the various forms that it may take) and not exactly supplemental classes (of which there are many options in the NoVA area).

Southside Educational Escapades Co-op

We are an inclusive homeschool co-op where all members’ beliefs, racial, and cultural backgrounds are respected. We value diverse perspectives and believe our differences enrich our world.

We offer academic and enrichment classes that have a classical education flavor. The curriculum is hands-on and fun; while still being an outstanding educational experience. An additional help for the busy homeschooling parent is the drop-off option, flexibility of part time or full time weekly enrollment (classes meet every Friday), as well as the ability to apply for staff membership which offers amazing benefits and discounts. A common vision is apparent in the classes’ scope and sequences. While each class explores a specific area of interest; each also functions as a piece of the “big picture”. For example, similar topics may be covered in different grades so that siblings may cover the same topic at various depths. Topics from classes in multiple grades and subjects tie into the planned monthly field trips.

A yearly progression through the grades will provide the student exposure to a range of topics that are wide (varied yet balanced), and multi-layered in order to build on knowledge without repetition. Common themes at SEE are exposure to many cultures, arts, and forms of creativity. We also strive towards raising awareness in all of our students of how we can be better stewards of our precious planet. Involvement in our local and global community is encouraged through the classes and field trips. The hope is that each student will feel “big enough” to make a difference. We meet on Fridays in at Miles Memorial United Methodist Church in the Ocean View area of Norfolk.

We have been taught and reminded that our children’s development and education is in large part our God-ordained parental responsibility. Homeschooling Together Co-op

Welcome to the Homeschooling Together Co-op. Homeschooling Together is a homeschool group, based out of Gloucester, that is open and welcome to all homeschool families in the area, in and out of the middle peninsula. The Homeschooling Together Co-op is merely an extension of this group, offering exceptional classes for our homeschool students. By participating in the co-op, the classes have been set up to help further the educational success and growth of our children. We all want our children to be able to learn everything they can and to be able to grow and do anything they would like to accomplish in life, and with this co-op it is the hope of the coordinator, teachers, and parents that we are all able to offer a high level of quality, demanding, and fun education to our children.

What is a Co-Op?

A homeschool co-op is a Cooperative of like-minded homeschoolers that collectively provide resources to the group which results in a greater educational benefit to the participating families and students than can be achieved as a single family unit or individual student. In order to succeed, ALL members must participate at an expected level. The coordinators do not provide the co-op without the members; they merely facilitate the organizing of the co-op lab offerings and schedule. So, a co-op is just that – cooperation of all members.

This handbook is intended to provide the co-op members and prospective members with the information needed to know their responsibilities to the co-op and expected behaviors. Members should read it carefully and keep it handy to refer to as needed.

Co-op Financial Obligations

I have been getting a lot of emails regarding the costs involved in the co-op, and to help answer all these questions, I am going to try to condense everything here for everyone. Essentially there is a registration fee for the year, the monthly tuition fee do to each teacher, and a material fee for each semester. Therefore, this is how it breaks down:

– Due when you sign up for classes (before classes begin) – $25 registration fee per student. This $25 registration fee is due at the beginning of the year and again in December for spring semester. This registration fee covers the insurance required for each participant, the building donation for the whole year, and the cost of operating the co-op website. There is no additional insurance cost, and I took the volunteer deposit out, on the presumption that everyone will volunteer and help out. If I find people are not helping out, I will require the volunteer deposit. Reedswood Christian Church, the church that has volunteered for us to use their building, is allowing us to use it on a year to year basis, assuming the building is left clean, etc.. So, there is $25 due before classes start in September and $25 due before classes start in January. This payment is written to the homeschool group, Homeschooling Together.

– Tuition – Each class you register your child for cost $20 per month. Tuition is due the first Thursday of each month, and is written directly to each teacher. There will be a file folder at the front entrance with each teacher’s name on it to put your checks in. If you would like to pay another way (cash, paypal, etc please discuss this with your teacher).  Therefore, the first tuition payments are due the first week of September.

– Materials Fee – Each class has a “semester” materials fee. This fee is due on the first day of classes in September and the first day of classes in January. This fee covers the cost of supplies needed in the classes. For example, copies, paint, manipulatives, etc, etc. Again, this payment is written out directly to each teacher and put in with your tuition payments in the file folder.

HERE

MISSION STATEMENT:

As homeschooling families it is our individual missions to raise our children in light of Deuteronomy 6:4-7. We value our privilege to homeschool as the best way to influence our children’s spiritual walks through early life. We also know that, as their parents, we know our children best. And thus recognize that we can present the best academic environment in which their individual learning strengths and weaknesses can be nurtured. As a group, it is HERE’s mission to reach out to our community of homeschooling families to enhance their experience through fellowship and recreation. We wish for our children to enjoy the extracurricular activities that are present in a school group setting – such as weekly Physical Education, monthly Field Trips, Holiday Parties and Educational Events.

Homeschooling is a 24 hour job and thus requires a great amount of discipline on the part of the mother. We recognize that being a disciplined mother requires strength from a source beyond herself – thus it is another goal of HERE to nurture the spirit of our homeschooling mothers. We pray that our monthly Mom’s Night Out will be a source of encouragement and rejuvenation for our mothers. Though it is NOT required that a member of HERE be a follower of Jesus Christ, it must be understood that HERE was founded and continues to function through prayer to God.

Deut 6:4-7 Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart; and YOU SHALL TEACH THEM DILIGENTLY TO YOUR SONS and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when rise up.

MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK

As a group we know that if everyone contributes, we will all be more successful together. HERE works using a point system to allow everyone to do their part to help the group. We use the points to help distribute the load of the group. The idea is that everyone who participates will have to obtain FOUR (4) points by the end of the year.

History

Started in the fall of 2004, HERE (stands for Home Educators Recreation and Enrichment) group was the brainstorm of two homeschool moms, Gretchen Heinrich and Tracie Wilkens. With many years of homeschooling experience, Gretchen moved to Smithfield and was looking for a homeschool support group. Tracie was starting her first year of homeschooling and was looking for a group to fill in the missing pieces from a school environment. After meeting at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, they gathered a group of other interested homeschooling moms and HERE was born. The first year featured holiday parties, working toward the Presidential Fitness Award, a few field trips and lots of growth. Today, we are thankful for the vision God gave to Tracie and Gretchen to help us support one another as we homeschool our children.

This is the website for the homeschooling families of FBC Park Street.  We call ourselves HEMS for Home Educating MentorS.  Since the internal webpages include photos and other private information, we obviously have kept that password protected. But if you are interested in homeschooling or just curious about how it might work, I encourage you to email our group administrator, Pip Chambers, at pipcham@gmail.com  She’ll figure who in our group would be the best fit for you to talk to, or let you know which of our upcoming events you might like to join us for.

We look forward to hearing from you, To God be the glory!

Hampton Roads Christian Homeschoolers

Welcome to Hampton Roads Christian Homeschoolers! Please email the Admin Team at hrchleaders@gmail.com to register.

HRCH is a group of homeschool families in the Hampton Roads area that meet together to provide social opportunities for Christian homeschooled children. Our primary purpose is to serve the Christian homeschool community in the following manner: The Statement of Faith is the essence of what we believe spiritually; signing it means that you personally agree that each item is true in your personal revelation of Jesus Christ. We know how important it is to be in fellowship with a group that holds your same values dear. If you have issue or disagree with any item on the statement, please consider if this is the right group for your family. You can always email the Admin Team at hrchleaders@gmail.com if you have any questions about it.

We charge a $12 annual fee for group members. We prorate this fee to $7 if you join between January 1st and July 31st. Homeschool Life charges HRCH $7 per family for web hosting fees. The remaining $5 is used to pay for incorporation fees that protect our members and for event supplies. The purpose of the annual fee to support the socialization of our children; therefore, all funds are used to create the best environment possible for our families. We hope that this group can meet your homeschool social needs. If you have any questions, please email the Admin Team at hrchleaders@gmail.com.mail

God’s Homeschool Warriors

God’s Homeschool Warrior’s co-op supports parents and students in achieving excellence in education through an environment of Godly wisdom and talented partnerships.   We partner with families from Suffolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Windsor Virginia, and Gates County, NC.

As an organization that is owned and run by its members, we all share in the responsibilities and benefits of the co-op.   To be successful in providing excellence, we ask all families to participate in three ways:

1. Prayer.  Since wisdom and sound judgement come from God, we ask all parents to ask God to provide our students and teachers (parents) with wisdom.

2. The Use of your Gifts.  God equips all of us with areas of strengths and spiritual gifts that can be applied in the Godly education of our children.   All parents are expected to serve as teachers or volunteers.

3.Your Input.  This is your co-op and your child’s education.  We invite all parents to participate in meetings.  We encourage questions, suggestions and solutions.

We meet at Southside Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA on Tuesdays from 9:00-2:40pm. Registration packets are available in the Registration Packet/Handbooks section. Please email us at ghwarriors@gmail.com with any questions.

Cornerstone Community Homeschool Co-op

Welcome to the Cornerstone Community Co-op!
We are an educational organization designed to provide support and enrichment for home educating families. Our classes provide supplemental educational experiences on a weekly basis to enrich and expand the learning opportunities for our home-educating families. Our classes are not meant to replace the home school environment, or to create a complete school environment, but to complement and supplement home education with scholarship and a group learning experience.
We believe that parents are responsible for the education and character development of their children. Our goal is to form and maintain an environment of community which enables the parents, students, faculty and leadership to support and minister to one another in Christ, striving for both personal and educational growth as we acknowledge Him in all things. Parental participation is a key component to the community aspect of this co-op.
