Home School Connection

HSC MISSION STATEMENT

The Home School Connection, LLC is an interdenominational Christian co-operative: parents working with parents, to provide a variety of academic and enrichment classes for their home-schooled students of all ages.

We value one another’s contributions.

All members have the opportunity to directly influence the vision and day-to-day working structure of HSC.

We especially support the efforts of families who home school through high school by

– Giving priority registration to high school families

– Following a predictable sequence of academic subjects for the whole co-op

– Involving families in the class planning process and soliciting information about their needs

– Seeking out highly qualified teachers for our classes

– Offering support and information to high school families

HSC is not a school. Although we offer hundreds of classes with excellent teachers, the organization does not provide transcripts or official credits, nor does HSC mandate the scope and sequence of courses from year to year. We believe responsibility for the learning of each student member ultimately rests with the homeschooling family, not with HSC’s teachers or with the organization.

Southwest Michigan Christian Scholars

Welcome to the Southwest Michigan Christian Scholars’ group website!

SMCS is a non-denominational homeschool support group serving families in St. Joseph, Stevensville, and surrounding Michigan areas. SMCS is affiliated with our state homeschool organization, Information Network for Christian Homes (INCH) and Home School Legal Defense (HSLDA).  Family membership averages between 25-35 families per year.

Our support group offers a variety of field trips and other activities for the family, moms and children. Some of the activities offered are the Iowa Standardized Testing, Fine Arts Festival, History Fair, Science Fair, Field Day, Graduation, Back to School Family Picnic, Moms’ Night Out, Moms’ Winter Retreat, and many more! Please see our Visitor’s Page for a more complete listing.

We are often presented with a couple of questions from prospective families, “Is there a set monthly meeting? How does your group work?” Below you will find the answers to these questions.

Is there a set monthly meeting? Each month our members plan a variety of activities and post them on our calendar.  Our group does not have a set monthly meeting per se, however, we do get together for activities on a regular basis.

How does your group work? Each member family, excluding first year members, is required to host or help host an event sometime during the school year.  When the details of these events are solidified, they are placed on the group calendar and made available to our member families. An announcement is made by the member hosting the event through our forum and then member families go to the calendar to sign-up for the events they wish to attend.

To join SMCS, please read the “SMCS Handbook” including our “Statement of Faith” and then complete the “Membership Application.”  Both are found in the left-hand sidebar of this web page. SMCS membership dues for 2013-2014 are $15 per family.

PIONEERS

About Us

PIONEERS is a Christian homeschool co-op. While you do not have to be a Christian to take classes here, please know that our program is based on Judeo-Christian principles. If you are a new family and would like to register for classes, please contact us.

Welcome

Founded in 1994, and located in Jackson, Michigan, we partner with families who desire to homeschool their children. Our primary desire is to come alongside the homeschooling parent/teacher and help lighten the load by offering tutorial support and enrichment opportunities for the middle through high school aged students. At the same time, we seek to be a family friendly program that provides some fun, educational, social, and enrichment opportunities for younger siblings as well. PIONEERS has something for everyone, with an awesome staff who love the Lord, love homeschoolers and are experts, often degreed, in their areas of teaching.

What We Do

The co-op meets three Wednesdays per month, for a total of 28 weeks, during the months of September through May. Classes are held at Ganson Street Baptist Church, 638 W. Ganson Street, in Jackson, MI. There are five class periods available for the 6th-12th grades. Weekly lesson plans which are provided by the tutor, are sent home to be accomplished by the student with little supervision from the parent.  We are a co-op, therefore parents are required to volunteer their time. (4-8 hours per year in the 6-12th grade level and a few hours each week at the younger, YP level.) We have several work times and dates available to work around the needs of your family.

Mission Statement

We, of Mid-Michigan Christian Home Educators, Inc., through God’s grace and provision, will cooperate together to enhance educational opportunities for our children by supporting one another through prayer, learning activities, sharing resources, and encouraging others in their homeschool efforts.

Statement of Faith

MMCHE believes the Bible is the inspired and infallible word of God, His completed and final revelation to man. God has existed from all eternity in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is God come in human flesh, being fully God and fully man, except without sin. Man is by nature sinful and inherently in need of salvation, which is exclusively found by faith alone in Jesus Christ, his substitutionary death on the cross, and His visible bodily resurrection. Salvation is a free gift and must be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, but only in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone.

Statement of Faith

1. We believe that the 66 books of the Bible are the inspired, infallible Word of God and are the authority for all matters of faith and life.. (Psalm 19:7-9, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

2. We believe that there is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1-3, Matthew 28: 19-20, John 1:1-4)

3. We believe that God the Father is infinite and personal and perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of each person, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 40:28, Jeremiah 31:3, Romans 5:8)

4. We believe that God the Son, Jesus Christ the Savior, is the only begotten Son of God, born of the virgin Mary. He lived sinlessly, performed miracles, and atoned for the sins of repentant people by dying on the cross. He was raised from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and intercedes for His people. He will return in power and in glory. (Matthew 24:30, Luke 1:34-35, John 1:14, John 3:16, Romans 3:23-26, Hebrews 4:15)

5. We believe that God the Holy Spirit guides us, reveals truth to us, convicts us of sin, and lives in believers, empowering them to reach out to others with love and with the gospel. (John 14:16-17, John 16: 13-14, Acts 1:8)

6.We believe that everyone is born with a sinful nature, separated from God and in need of salvation. Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential for salvation through repenting from sin and receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior by faith. (John 3:5-8, John 5:24, Ephesians 2:8-9)

7. We believe that both the saved and the lost will be resurrected: the saved to the resurrection of eternal life and the lost to the resurrection of eternal damnation. (2 Thessalonians 1:5-10, Revelation 20-22)

8. We believe that all who receive Jesus as Savior and Lord are united in Christ, forming one body of believers with Christ as the head. (Romans 15:5-6, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 4:3-6)

9. We believe that God has ordained the family, comprised of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, adoption, as the foundational institution of human society. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Children, a blessing and heritage from the Lord, belong to God, who has given their parents the responsibility and authority for their care and training. (Genesis 2:18-24, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Ephesians 6:1-4)

Grace Homeschool Co-op

Grace Homeschool Co-op is a Christian homeschool cooperative. It is a ministry to homeschool families in the body of Christ. It is not a school, independent learning program, nor an extension of the public school. This is not a drop-off program. A parent is required to be on campus every hour their children attend co-op. As a body of Christian believers, we agree to willing serve one another with our time, talents, and energy in a spirit of love, unity, and cooperation. Although we come together in the name of Jesus Christ, we do appreciate that our group is still very diverse. We agree to extend grace to one another in all areas of diversity. We desire that in all we do, we are a reflection of Christ and bring Him honor and glory.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT: Be educating your K-8 child(ren) at home. Agree with the Statement of Faith. Be willing to serve in the operation of the co-op: most families will be required to be the lead teacher of one class per year among other responsibilities required for the co-op to function smoothly.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe the following truths as taught in the Word of God:

Regarding Scripture: The Bible, the Holy Scriptures, are living and active, God-breathed, written by men under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and will stand forever. (2 Peter 1:20-21;  2 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 40:8; Hebrews 4:12)

Regarding Sin and Salvation: All people have sinned, turned aside, become corrupt and fallen short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. We are justified and have peace with God through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross for our sins. Salvation is a) a free gift of God, not of works done by us in righteousness, but by God’s grace, goodness and loving-kindness; b) Salvation is by the regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit; c) Salvation involves repentance and faith since God commands people everywhere to repent and to have faith in Jesus Christ alone; d) Salvation is given to all who confess and call upon the name of the Lord. (Psalm 14:3; Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8-9,10:9-10,13; 1 Timothy 2:4-5; Titus 3:4-7;  Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16-17; Luke 13:5; Acts 20:21; Hebrews 6:1; 2 Corinthians 7:10; 2 Peter 3:9; Acts 17:30)

Regarding Jesus: Jesus is of the seed of David according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Holy Spirit by his resurrection from the dead.  He was born of a virgin, manifested in the flesh, in the likeness of men. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation and in Him all the fullness of God dwells. By Him, through Him, and for Him all things were created. He is before all things and holds all things together. Jesus became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God. He died for our sins, was buried, and raised the third day according to the Scriptures.  Today He is seated at the right hand of God the Father and always lives to make intercession for us. (Hebrews 1:1-4, 7:25, 13:8; Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Timothy 3:16;  Colossians 1:15-20, 3:1;  John 14:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

Regarding the Father: The Everlasting Father, the Creator of the ends of the world, laid the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the work of His hands. He is the Most High God over all the earth. He is the Sovereign Lord who rules the kingdoms of  mankind and sets over it whom He will. He is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our afflictions. (Isaiah 40:28; Psalm 102:25-27, 90:2, 83:18; Daniel 5:21; Acts 4:24; 2 Corinthians 1:3-5)

Regarding the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth who brings freedom. He proceeds from the Father and bears witness of the Son. He is the Helper who teaches us all things, brings the Word to our remembrance, guides us into all truth, and declares to us things to come.  He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He lives inside and seals believers as the guarantee of our inheritance. He helps in our weaknesses and intercedes for us according to the will of God. His manifestation is given to all in the body of Christ for the common good. (John 4:24, 14:26, 15:26, 16:7-13; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 Corinthians 6:19, 12:7; Romans 8:26-27)

Regarding the Trinity: The Everlasting Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are known by the church as the Trinity. He is the LORD our God and though He is three distinct persons alive and at work today and throughout history, He is only one God. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Luke 1:35; Ephesians 2:18; Genesis 1:26, 11:7; Isaiah 6:8)

Regarding Man: Mankind, male and female, were created in the image and likeness of God. Now, after the fall of creation, we bear the image of Adam, but after the resurrection from the dead, we will be set free from the bondage of corruption to bear the image of Jesus. Man’s days are ordained for him before there is one of them. God knows each of us before we are in the womb and carefully forms and knits us together in our mother’s womb. (Genesis 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 15:49; Romans 8:20-21; Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139: 13-16)

Regarding Creation: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working together created the heavens and the earth in six days. God rested on and sanctified the seventh day. By God’s word all things, invisible and visible, were created by Him and they exist by His will. One day God will create a new heavens and a new earth. (Genesis 2:1-3; Isaiah 45:18; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 11:3; Revelation 4:11; Isaiah 65:17)

Regarding Marriage: Marriage has been ordained by God from the beginning. God created marriage to consist of one male and one female in a lifelong covenant. (Genesis 2:22-25)

Regarding  End Times: Jesus will return one day to rule and reign on the earth for 1,000 years. All people will face the judgment of God. Unbelievers will go to the white throne judgment and be judged according to the deeds they have done and then face eternal punishment.  Believers, whose names are found written in the book of life and have eternal life, will go before the judgment seat of Christ to receive what is due for what they have done, whether good or evil. Then, there will be a new heaven, a new earth, and a new Jerusalem for the overcoming saints. Jesus will dwell with us and there will be no more death, sorrow, crying or pain. All things will be made new! (Revelation 20:4-6,11-15; Matthew 25:29-46; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 21:1-7)

Covenant Learning Co-op

Covenant Learning Co-op (CLC) is a Christian, non-denominational homeschool educational cooperative based upon Biblical truth.  The group’s primary vision is to see God bless our individual homeschools through our corporate effort. To that end CLC aims to:

  1. Provide academic classes for our Junior and Senior High students.
  2. Provide enrichment lessons and nursery care for siblings of older children so those parents can participate in various capacities of running the co-op.

It is the intent of the group, as much as possible, to provide the above classes and learning experiences for our children by using Covenant Learning Co-op parents, through whom there is an abundance of giftedness, talent, college background, work history and homeschool teaching experience available to us.

Statement of Faith

Since we believe the following, in all co-op matters we will teach nothing that contradicts the following:

  1. We believe that the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible constitute the Holy Scriptures which alone is the inspired and infallible Word of God, fully inerrant in the original writings. There are no other infallible sources of truth and authority beside it. It is the only reliable record for the beginning of history. (Psalm18:30; Proverbs 30:5-6; Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
  2. We believe there is only one God and He is sovereign, eternally existing in three distinct but not separate persons: the everlasting Father, His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the giver of life. (Deuteronomy 4:35, 32:39; Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 43:10; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,14, 14:26, 15:26, 17:21; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2)
  3. We believe that Jesus Christ, fully God as the only eternal Son of God, took to Himself a fully human nature when He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and was born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He was bodily resurrected, ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to earth in power and glory to judge the living and the dead.  (Isaiah 9:6 53:9; Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:34-35, 22:69, 23:44-46; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:19-20; 1 Timothy 3:16; 2 Timothy 4:1; Hebrews 7:26, 12:2; 1 Peter 2:22)
  4. We believe that the Holy Spirit, truly and eternally God, indwells and transforms a person for his salvation and is given by God to him as a seal of salvation. Further, we believe that the Holy Spirit gathers, guides, directs and protects the church in the work of the gospel until the day of Christ’s return.  It is through the Holy Spirit that God guides us into all truth. (John 3:5-6, 16:13; Luke 12:12; Acts 13:2, 16:6; Romans 8:14; I Corinthians 6:19-20; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30; Titus 3:5-7)
  5. We believe in one, holy, universal church, which is the body of Christ, its head, and is made up of those who have placed their faith for life and death in His gospel.  (I Corinthians 12; Ephesians 1:11-13, 3:10, 14-15; Acts 13:48; Colossians 1:18)
  6. We believe that God directly created in His own image Adam and Eve, the historical parents of the entire human race. Those first parents sinned against God, and as a result no human beings are without sin; they thereby incur not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God.  Likewise, through their sin, creation itself is also held in bondage to decay.  These are the things that account for the problem of evil in our world. (Genesis 1:26-27, 3:17-19; Romans 3:23, 5:12-19, 8:19-21; Ephesians 2:3)
  7. We believe that the one-time, complete and perfect substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ provides the only grounds for justification of sinners before God. Man contributes no merit or effort toward his own justification; it is purely by God’s grace. (Isaiah 53:3-12; Matthew 1:21; Romans 3:21-24, 4:24-25; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:4-5, 8-9; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 2:24)
  8. We believe that faith alone is the means by which the righteousness of Christ is given to man and forgiveness of sins is received.    (John 1:12; Acts 16:31; Romans 1:16-17, 4:24, 10:9-10, 13, 17; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 John 5:13)
  9. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, with everlasting conscious punishment for the lost and everlasting conscious blessedness for believers. (Job 19:25-27; Matthew 25:41, 46; Luke 14:14; John 3:36, 5:28-29; Romans 8:11; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9;  Revelation 20:10-15)
  10. We believe that the triune God spoke into being the earth, heavenly bodies, all vegetation, and every kind of water creature.  God formed all birds of the air and beasts of the fields, each according to its kind. God formed man from the dust of the ground and God formed woman from the rib of man in God’s image and likeness. (Genesis 1-2, 1 Corinthians 15:38, 39; Hebrews 11:3)

For teaching purposes at Covenant Learning Co-op only the following Bible translation are approved:  New International Version (NIV), King James (KJ), New King James (NKJ), English Standard Version (ESV), and New American Standard (NASB)

CHEMinistry — A home school support group with good chemistry!

Whether you are considering home schooling or have been home educating for several years, CHEMinistry has a lot to offer. These public pages will give you a glimpse of the many benefits and opportunities provided by CHEMinistry for its members. Academic and sports programs for kids, encouragement and mentoring for moms, an array of special events for families, and our comprehensive private web site are some examples of how our Midland-based home schooling support group helps its members train their children to be godly Christians.

What or who is CHEMinistry?

We are the Christian Home Educators of Midland Ministry, Inc. We are a Midland-based, Christian, nonprofit home school support group that serves over 170 families in Mid-Michigan.

Why should I join CHEMinistry?

Probably the most important benefit of CHEMinistry membership is increased awareness of opportunities for home schooling families in the Midland area. This web site is the primary mechanism whereby we share ideas and opportunities with each other. Our website is a secure, password-protected area accessible only to members. In addition to continual, up-to-date access to www.CHEMinistry.org, you may opt to receive a weekly update via e-mail listing all of the new additions or changes to the web site in the past week. You can also choose to receive e-mails of new Forum Postings and new Classifieds by other CHEMinistry members.

Other benefits of membership in CHEMinistry include access to field trips planned by CHEMinistry volunteers, reduced or no fees to participate in some events and activities, communication about a variety of programs and activities available to home schoolers, access to our online forum for connecting with other members, and the ability to place classified ads through our web site. CHEMinistry also periodically offers seminars or workshops that are of general interest to a significant fraction of our members. Finally, your CHEMinistry membership will enable you to receive a $20 discount when you join or renew your membership with HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association).

How do I join CHEMinistry?

If you are a Mid-Michigan home educator, your family may join CHEMinistry by 1.) “Requesting Membership” (see the left side bar) and 2.) Printing, completing, and mailing our Membership Form with a check for your membership fee to the address listed on the form. The annual membership fee is $20. Your membership entitles you to web site access until July 1st. When your membership form and payment have been received, you will receive an e-mail confirmation.

Our Mission Statement:

CHEMinistry supports Midland-area home schooling families by coordinating and communicating opportunities that assist and encourage families in training their children to be godly Christians.

Our Statement of Faith:

We believe that there is one God, Creator of all things, perfect and eternal, existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that the Holy Scriptures are the inspired and inerrant Word of God; that Jesus, true God and true man, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, was crucified for our sins, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Christ, convict sinners, and indwell believers; that the true Church consists of those who by faith are justified and saved through the shed blood of Jesus Christ; that Christ will return to judge the living and the dead; that the bodily resurrection of the dead will lead to eternal life with the Lord for believers and eternal punishment for unbelievers.

CHESS – Christian Home Educators’ Support System

Christian Home Educators’ Support System (CHESS) was founded in the fall of 1993 as a co-operative effort on the part of a few Lansing-area home educating families who realized that by working together and sharing the load, we could all benefit tremendously! We are currently serving over 200 families from St. Johns to Jackson, Portland to Perry, Charlotte to Howell, and everywhere in between. Once your family has become a part of CHESS, you have an immediate “connection” with other like-minded, uniquely-gifted homeschooling families in mid-Michigan.

1) CHRIST-CENTERED- “One Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all”–Ephesians 4:5&6

Open to all interested mid-Michigan home educators, C.H.E.S.S. specifically ministers to Christian home educating families willing to look beyond our many differences and focus instead on what we have in common: our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

2) COOPERATION- “serve one another in love.” –Galatians 5:13

C.H.E.S.S. operates cooperatively as we all work together, allowing each of the home educating families in our midst to contribute their various skills, talents, insights, and experiences to the benefit of all involved.

3) COMMUNITY- “in Christ we who are many form one body” –Romans 12:5

An interdenominational ministry, C.H.E.S.S. seeks to help home educating families connect and build relationships, thereby bringing unity within the Body of Christ and creating a homeschooling community of Believers
